Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) (956315 Views)

Zahra29: Lol.. Brexit was won on the delusion of 'British exceptionalism' and the thinking that the UK would sleepwalk its way into trade deals around the globe. Lets see how those went *The first main deal with Japan is estimated to add <0.07% to GDP over 15 yrs and mirrored the deal the EU already had *The second deal with Australia was roundly condemned by British farmers and left the Australians gloating about how good a deal they had extracted. It was even mocked on Australian TV as presenters asked wgat the UK would export to them. They forgot health workers perhaps. *The deal with the U.S which was a major hope was first quelled by Obama who had already warned that the U.S would prefer to deal with the EU should the UK leave. When Trump came, he asked for the NHS and that was it. *The deal with Canada has been abandoned as the Canadians couldn't extract a good enough deal. *That of India was also abandoned despite the PM personally going there. The Indians rightly wanted to send a few hundred thousand people along. *Of late, we've been inundated with stories of Chinese espionage only for the UK to break ranks with its western partners and head to china seeking 'investment'. *The Caribbean folks are waiting to be approached so they can discuss reparations ![]() *Oddly, it seems the UK was able to sign some deal with Nigeria. There have been whispers of CANZUK and now some return to the EU customs union which we only just ran away from.. lol.. another delusion. But then, you've been hoping on this deal for a long time.. All this while, trade with the EU has been falling with over £27b lost prompting the BOE governor (who should be non-partisan) to raise alarm. True, the economy has shown some resilience mainly thanks to record breaking migration which we welcome. Finally, as you know, I'm not against Brexit- I firmly ed it and would vote leave if we had a referendum today. In the future, I'm open on a return as that would open up opportunities in Europe. I just don't understand what benefits most of my compatriots who voted 'leave' were reasonably hoping to or have achieved 6 Likes |

jedisco: A long story just to it that the UK economy is still one of the best performing in Europe in spite of the many challenges it has faced, including the own goal Brexit. A recent poll showed that majority Brits would now vote in favour to remain/re, as experience has since shown that the grass was much greener where we were. The economy is not showing resilience due to record levels of migration. Some Caribbean countries have been discussing reparations since I was a little girl. At this point, it's become friendly sparring over a cup of tea. Nothing new. Every country needs China now, even the US, though it likes to deny it. Difference is that some countries are literally allowing China rob them blind. "Some deal with Nigeria" - not the first time or the last. Besides didn't Nigeria just sell off some mines to ? I wonder what Nigerians are getting in return for this "investment". Any insight on this? As for Canada, when you move over you'll quickly come to realise that they are in far greater need of your AI generated advice. Lol 1 Like |

jedisco: What have they done to make you think they are capitalist? Capitalism does not increase minimum wage, increase salaries, nationalise railways, increase regulation, universal health care or worker protections. If they have not gone far enough for you, it's because the voting public want them like that. The majority will always carry the vote. I whatever strategy that keeps Labour winning. No be ideology we go chop ![]() |

You ed Brexit? Lord give me strength! You are invested deeply in this country and you Brexit? I m interested in your reason... I am happy to announce that talks have been opened on ing the PEM . Launched in 2012, the Pan-Euro-Mediterranean convention aims to make it easier for 25 countries, mostly in Europe and north Africa to trade with each other through common rules. Not quite as good as being in the EU but it's something. |

jedisco: Farm workers are on a seasonal visa post Brexit, not a long term visa route. Of the 100k care visas, how many were subsequently revoked when checks were tightened following revelations of rampant abuse and CoS racketeering - which was unexpected and unprecedented on the work permit route. Care visa issuance is now significantly lower, at a more reasonable level that meets real industry needs, without exploding migration figures. There is still a lot of underground scamming going on unfortunately where individuals are paying for CoS that then turns out to be fake. 1 Like |

rock86: Same legal process applies as with a non-oyinbo woman. You'll need to think about whether you want to switch from a work visa to a spousal visa, but in your case it makes sense to remain on your visa. |

Thewritingnerd:why would I or anyone logical be angry at a man who wants to kick ILLEGALS out of the country? My stance hasn't changed. He is the president of America, for America and to pursue the interests of America. Illegals either hibernate for the next four years OR be proactive, take the initiative and do the right thing, GO BACK HOME💯😁 Las Las the people wey dem don dey throway so far no be even blacks, just like my old post you quoted stated. |

The earlier Mexicans, Africans, Guatemalans, Colombians and all the other 'ans', take a cue from wetin Uhuru Kenyatta talk for here, and realise that Trump/America owes you nada, the better for all of them. Me no dey among those wey send Trump papa, and I no vex say him no send me. I no just understand the silly entitlement mentality. Person say he no wan do or allow certain rubbish again, some people wey dey fine being the beggars in the equation at hand come dey vex. Since when did beggars become choosers?? Again, if you are an illegal, Trump is gonna come after you and whatever you see, you deserve it. If you have any shame or dignity, go the fck home! Simple.

I've got a question pls? Those that makes an application say on the day the current visa expires, do they still get to work with their employers without them chasing to end the employment because of a now expired RTW? Or how do you navigate that phase of awaiting decision |
wallg123: 11:33pm On Jan 29 |
Treadway:Just to add. So far I have mostly seen cases of illegal immigrants with criminal records being deported. But the MSM would not tell you this... You can't be illegal and being committing crime up and down. Who does that ?..... Would any country open it's borders for all ex-convicts, murderers and rapist ? |
Kenn55: 12:15am On Jan 30 |
wallg123: My brother every president before Trump deported people. Biden deported more than 1.5m human beings. Obama was nicknamed deporter in chief. His deportation record is highest of any president till date yet there wasn't any brouhaha about it. This is because for normal people, it doesn't give joy to deport people but then it still has to be done. The only difference now is that somebody likes to dehumanize people. For Trump, dehumanizing people validates his toughness. It gives him joy. Otherwise he can carry out deportations like others have done without creating a spectacle out of it. It is not really about deportation for him, it is about the show. At the end of the day, I won't be surprised that he might not even deport up to the number others have deported but he will make the most noise with it. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Kenn55: This was very insightful. The cruelty is the point. Just like in the UK at the minute, deportations of people with no right to be here are happening currently at a very high rate. But nobody shouts about it. 1 Like |

Fraih: Please don't apply on day of your visa expiry. If I m not mistaken, once you apply, you are given a special kind of leave (section 3c continuation of leave)which allows you to continue work till your application is decided. But why leave it till the last day? My employers will send a cos 6 weeks before your leave expires. Apply early and avoid stress. |

missjekyll:CNN and leftist mainstream media are the ones shouting about it. Silly people like Selena Gomez are the ones making a spectacle about it. Why can't everyone shut up just like they did during the Obama times? Shutting up is so darn easy, why is it so hard for the haters to do that? Anyway, the veil of deceit don burn patapata even before the election, so MOST objective people are not deceived by all these shenanigans and nonsense. Let him deport who him wan deport in peace, no o, lai lai...headline after headline, reaction after reaction, insult after insult and yet he is the one making noise. How ludicrous!. The man said he would do it before being elected, the man signed executive orders on it a week ago. The man hasn't been making noise about it, na una dey make noise. Can you see the inconsistency now? Fix culpability where culpability is jare. 1 Like |

Fraih: Your previous visa and the work rights and other conditions attached to it remain valid once you have submitted am application for another visa at any time before 11.59 p.m. on the day that visa is to expire. Your employer is supposed to check your visa status using a separate Home Office service (called the Employer Checking Service) to confirm that you have an application being processed and that they are allowed to continue employing you while that application is being decided. (The technical description for this permission to remain lawfully in the UK while an application is being decided is called "3c leave", from section 3C of one of the numerous Immigration Acts) However, it does happen that some employers are unaware of this or are risk-averse and they terminate employees whose RTW appears to have expired irrespective of such employees having put in valid applications which are being processed. This being the case, it is most advisable that one should apply for a renewal/replacement of their visa as early as possible taking into the Home Office's processing times for their visa category, in order to avoid such situations. If you are a sponsored worker, in theory your employer should have a record of when your visa will expire and should you well in advance to let you know what they'll do - either to continue sponsoring you or not. Not every employer is as organised as it should be, so it is up to you to engage with them within that timeframe if they don't get across to you first. 3 Likes |
