1. Once they're caught, they're most likely not leaving jail based on the Trump hardline. Actually, US law doesn't specify any amount of time someone can be in jail while they're being processed, if they entered the country illegally.

2. Sometimes, the jails are not a better place for them to stay. I don't think Trump will be putting them in regular jails with his 's hardline policies.

3. Some of them may be willing to go back home if they've made some money, perhaps try another country, but now they have to languish in jail.

I agree with you, and from my original post, I wrote that it's difficult to determine someone's identity and country of origin. However, what they're saying here is different. They're talking about "treating them with dignity", that is no grounds to reject your citizen. If they have ports of identifying documents with them, you're bound to accept them.
