The Court of Appeal sitting in Akure, Ondo State capital has upheld the death sentence of Ramon Adedoyin, a prominent businessman and hotelier, for his involvement in the murder of one Timothy Adegoke, a former postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Delivering the judgment on Thursday, the court affirmed the earlier verdict of the Osun State High Court, which had sentenced Adedoyin to death.

“The judgment of the High Court of Osun State stands. Adedoyin’s appeal is dismissed in part,” the court declared in part.

The Court of Appeal, however, set aside some aspects of the lower court’s orders, including the forfeiture of the Hilton Hotel and the order for Adedoyin to pay for the education of Adegoke’s children.

Furthermore, the court ruled that it had no jurisdiction to impose penalties outside the statutory provisions

Adegoke’s death was reported in November 2021 after his corpse was found at the Hilton Honours Hotel in Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he had lodged.

The hotelier had travelled from Abuja for an examination at a distance learning centre in Moro, Osun State on November 5 of that year.

He had checked into the hotel but was reported missing after two days. However, Adegoke’s body was found days later, leading to a probe that linked his death to Adedoyin and others.

In May 2023, Adedoyin and others were sentenced to death after they were found guilty of murder and conspiracy to murder.

But dissatisfied with the judgement, Adedoyin approached the appeal court to dismiss the sentence and conviction.

The Court of Appeal, on Thursday, however, upheld the conviction and death sentence of the hotelier.

This guy might need Chief Wole Olanipekun to do a Pro Bono for him ...If he is not in the hotel when the incident happened as claimed, how come they are wrapping him in all this. You better change your lawyer ...

Hope there isn't need for Supreme Court again. We anyway know the execution won't be carried out, at least let him spend the rest of his life in jail.
Not that Bobrisky kinda jail o.

With his influence and wealth, you really think they wouldn't have released him if indeed there was no solid evidence against him?

Take it or leave it, ritualists litter everywhere in this country and while I am not saying this man is guilty, justice must prevail! The wicked cannot keep running our society and evil shall never prevail.

Wole Olanipekun is not a criminal lawyer. That's not his specialization.

His lawyers must be incompetent.

There is no evidence that a murder took place other than the fact that they conceal
the death after the fact.
The autopsy was inconclusive.

It also doesn't make sense to convict a suspect of murder when they were never present
in the murder scene unless it can be proven they gave instruction for the murder which
the prosecution failed to prove.

I suspect the court being influenced by public sentiments.

No murder weapon or method, suspect not present in murder scene and no concrete motive
and still the court went ahead to convict.

Covering up a death should not attract death sentence.

It is time to change the lawyers.

Supreme court underway and same verdict awaits him. Don't build your happiness off the sadness of others. You can't eat your cake and have it; even if you have been escaping deserving punishment, one day your "monkey go go market e no go return."

There are some people you are not supposed to kill. Once you kill them, they destroy your evil enterprise. RIP Timothy Adegoke.

seems you’re not following this from the beginning
Well one of the arrested workers in his hotel narrated that it was this man who gave instructions on everything and tell them to go and dump the corpse away

The problem I have with this case is that how does the owner of a hotel gets the death sentence when he wasn't even there?

I understand that his son who was the manager was involved and has ran away. But instead of looking for him they just decided to put it all on the father? It's a very strange case.

In a country where there is so much stealing, looting, fraud and corrupt practices everywhere, nobody has the liver to sign death sentences on convicts again.
For years under this new dispensation which state has been able to successfully carry out the death penalty on convicted persons?

Your guess is as good as mine
