On Sunday, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stated that he does not identify as an Igbo man.

He revealed this information during a media chat in Abuja on Sunday while discussing John Azuta Mbata's election as the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

A few weeks ago, Azuta Mbata was elected President-General of Ohanaeze in Imo State. He succeeded Fidelis Nze Chukwu, who served out the term following the ing of former President-General Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Referring to Mbata, Wike stated: "I am an Ikwerre man, not Igbo. I have no issue with Igbo people."

Azuta Mbata is free to associate with anyone. I am a proud Ikwerre individual and not d with Ohanaeze.

"I will not, under any circumstances, compromise my identity for the sake of recognition."

That's what's happening here bro, nothing to do with oil or Biafra. I never hear say Enugu man steal Imo state oil. Even Ebonyi that accepts being Igbo said they are not part of Biafra. Ikwere can be Igbo and still refuse to be part of Biafra or share their oil with SE. We have more oil in SE than ALL ikwere local government areas combined, not to even talk about gas.

The denial of being igbo started immediately after the civil war.
It was part of the FG agenda to fragment the Igbo nation and make them look small and weak.it is an age long strategy when dealing with a formidable opponent.its like what the allies did with after WW2, Austria became a separate country even though Hitler is from there and then they divided Berlin into West and East.
Secondly, out of political expediency, the ikweres accepted it because after the civil war, nobody was sure of what is going to happen.

You are not exactly right. A man who knows his ancestry is telling you that he is not Igbo and you are saying another thing. Wike's father is alive and knows where they came from. Rivers State is far from been homogeneous.
