Educationalserv:The south is the market for northern produce, remove this market and see the northern farmers become paupers overnight. They must sell those perishables fast enough or they get spoilt. The man with cash has his options.Obasanjo government once allowed the importation of beans from Burkina Faso and the northern middle men that hoarded beans suffered immense losses |

Educationalserv:I assume you are from the North.I can tell you that the North is the most blessed region by the size of its land. The region is far best region to live and raise a family. I am an Abusite. The northerners are more accommodating. The reason you have more igbos thr.Though some times we had religious crises which was never triggered by northerner Muslims. I know the northerner states more than other state because I am kaduna boy. The unfortunate thing happened which was insecurity as a result of boko haram .The northern leaders shouldn't have allowed boko haram and by extension insecurity have that strong hold in the North to gain politicallyThe person who sold that idea did the north worst thing. I how you could travel from kd-zaria-giwa-katsina-zamfara-sokoto or you go towards brinin kebbi all the way to kamba the border Then zaria- makarifi-Kona dangora-garda tamparawa -kano Kaduna-panbaqwa-saminaka Jos divert to bauchi--then the corner corner road to gombe -adamawa Brenin gwari -tegina-niki to kwara .You go to these places without fear.We go to remote villages to buy farm products. You sleep and eat without envy like you see in the SW and and sometimes in the east All the North needs is align with SE to take back nigeria from SW President and break the monopoly of lagos. The revenue should come to the center Abuja for equity sharing. Move all company head quarters to abj.Decentralize the see port and airports to different regions. Have good dry port for all imports heading kano. All oil companies head office moved to the centre..abj.Why should bank head offices be in lagos when more business transactions happen up north. The foreign embassies should move to the center,Abuja. Then restore the good old days of North for proper farming and animal husbandary.I am igbo but born and raised in the north 2 Likes |

ElSudani: You're missing his point, though he did exaggerate. He's saying the North could probably live without palm oil; maybe the main buyers up North are Southerners who moved there and some businesses. Could the South do without food from the North? I doubt it. Yeah, the South grows some food, but not nearly enough for its huge population. 1 Like |

You're right I witness this myself with my eyes because it's my field I always wonder how they cultivate same plot of land and it's still fertile. I noticed they use fertilizer more in the North anyway Bandirao: |

LivingSage:yes organic fertilisers from livestocks, in the past when farmers and herders are in peace farmers leave the stalks in the farms for Fulani cows which feeds and drops organic fertilisers in the farms and almost every Hausa rural homes have alot of goats and few cattles their manures also help a lot and what is more northern farmers practiced crop rotation mixed farming crossing grains like Guinea corn with legumes like beans or groundnuts it was an ancient custom that was later found to have scientific advantages the grains consume a lot of nitrogen while the legumes have nitrogen fixating bacteria in their root nodules which balance the farms. 1 Like |

Educationalserv: Palm oil , a sign of poverty? I can now see where the problem of the north started from. A very acutely poor region fight tax reform calling a very vital source of forex exchange via export a sign of poverty means the north has a mindset issue. 1 Like |

Educationalserv: Onions, tomatoes, cows and other farm products can easily be grown in the south lands in the southern region are more fertile than ur lands up north. Your leaders who knew better than you knows that it's almost impossible for you guys up north to survive alone without southern resources that's why they are vehemently opposed to either division or restructuring of nigeria. 1 Like |

Educationalserv: You must be really deluded if u think the more fertile lands in the south can't grow whatever farm produce u grow up north southerners are not into farming because their lands are very rich in oil and gas which the whole country depends on. Take ur crops and allow the south to be on their own and see if the south will lack or miss ur farm products whatever they lack can easily be imported from other countries with money from their booming economy. |

Consumables going from south to North is also plenty. Kola nuts, oranges, palm kernel oil, palm oil and etc. We also import food. Whatever the south gets from the North is paid for by what the North gets from the south.

Educationalserv:What was that got to do with VAT? The south that contributes over 90% of the money that goes into the Federation to be shared to the states to fund the budget of the Northern States and Local Government Areas? Is Kano State budget funded from the proceeds of Tomato and onions sales or remittances from Cow receipts? Again what has all that crap got to do with VAT ? |

Educationalserv:None of those things come from tomatoes or Onions which is the topic of this thread so that diversionary tactic will only work with illiterates like you So you acknowledge that your onions and Tomato contribute Zero to the Federation ? Good On this thread we are discussing VAT and agriculture of which the North contributes next to nothing e.g there is data that 10 states in the North 10 Northern states contribute N13.69bn to VAT pool — allocated N59.17bn in August 2024 https://tribuneonlineng.com/10-northern-states-contribute-n13-69bn-to-vat-pool-allocated-n59-17bn-in-august-2024/ YOU ARE PARASITES |
