I have never been the enthusiastic type when it comes to Japa, but the realities on ground in the country leaves one with little or no choice to look elsewhere for greener pastures. I have about 7m worth of landed properties, and I want to do away with it and relocate before this country leaves me with nothing at all. I graduated with a 2:1 from a federal university.

Which country affords a better opportunity for someone looking for an MSc, putting all circumstances into perspective?

Why are you pained? I gave you honest advise on where your 7m can take you considering the current state of things.

If you think your 7m can take you beyond Africa, then you're the one who needs to grow up and face reality.

Lol he can also try Benin republic. At least after spending on visa, transport and accommodation there'll be change from the 7m to last him a couple of months.

This is a thread where he asked a similar question

7 million naira isn’t up to 7000 usd. Sociology itself is also a useless degree. What are you gonna do when you migrate? I know that Nigeria is bad but it’s very possible to find yourself in a much worst situation than you were in Nigeria if you didn’t plan properly before migration.

Sociology may be a lesser 'choiced' course here in Nigeria, but that isn't really the case abroad.

most countries are looking for people in STEM not sociology. And yes its currently a useless course unless you acquire extra skills. For the japa there is no viable pathway for you right now. Develop your skills along what is sellable now or in the future abroad

What if I go with the study route?

I'm looking to apply for an MSc in social works.

If you want to venture into It start learning the skills and get the experience in Nigeria. It’s also not easy getting an IT job abroad without expenrience.

I concur boss. I don't mind doing anything to leave this hellhole. Even if it means migrating to Botswana. So many youths are yet to realize the downtrend that Nigeria has slipped into.
Thanks for taking out time to engage my post

Nothing is in that country. It has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in Africa. The then-ruling party lost to a newbie after being in power since independence. Their major export product - diamond - is being threatened with lab diamonds and as a landlocked country, before any goodies reach them, South Africa has swallowed everything.

As for the rest of your post, is Nigeria really that bad? How about graduate trainee positions? How many entry-level positions have you applied to and how many aptitude tests have you written ever since? Companies should be advertising them yanfu-yanfu as they did between 2011 - 2014 and a little bit between 2018 - 2019.

Leaving Nigeria is good, but a lot needs to be factored in before you do so: which country of interest? If non-English speaking, are you willing to learn the language? If self sponsored, do you have the required funding and can you get bountiful scholarships? Does the country have a booming economy or do they need foreign workers (for good jobs) because of a low birth rate? The good thing about leaving is it gives you much more exposure, better insight of how things work and foreign s. Now, I see why folks do reverse japa abi japada as they call it after some years because one begins to spot HOW to profitably solve problems in Nigeria. Before you come at me, I no talk say make you use the money start business for Nigeria o. It is your prerogative to determine what to spend on.

I see someone mention Japan, for the love of whoever you worship, with your course, you better be proficient at speaking the native language of any non-English speaking country you intend to migrate to. And to be honest, 7M won't take you to any reasonable country outside of Africa. Finland and Austria don't come across as "reasonable countries" to me.

OP,

I see you here again. You better put that money into the Nigerian economy. If you are from the South West, look into trading cocoa as a means to raise capital. If you are from Benue and the South East, do the same, this time focusing on the Cross River/Akwa Ibom/Abia axis. You cannot be asking to migrate to countries with limited funds every eke market day.

Your best bet is looking into countries like Poland, Latvia, Lithuania, etc .

But there is some possibility that you might need to pivot into a new course apart from sociology.

Do your research on schools that give scholarship in the US. Your 7m will go a long way if you have full funding. Go to the US student visa thread, there are loads of information there. Wish you all the best.

Thank you. Reports from people who sought Visas from the US recently is not quite encouraging.
