I hope you all are well.
I bring to you this issue I am currently facing, a squad of meter monitoring team bursted my apartment and while a check was carried out on the meter, it was discovered that it has been internally byed which was totally unknown to me. After dragging back and forth, and the official who got the meter for me was involved, I was disconnected, meter removed and handed to me, wire taken away, and a sum of 451k was slammed as fine.
Recently, the official who got the meter for me reached out to me, he told me I should bring 30k to retrieve the wire and when I asked him what about fixing the meter, he'd brushed me off.

During the heated argument with the meter monitoring team, I was told some wires has been cut off inside the meter which I am sure it wasn't from me.

I would like to know if this meter can be fix by a technician so it can continue to work normally rather than taking it to their office where I don't know what else they would charge me in the cause of finding solutions to the meter.

First, only allow your meter provider official to inspect your meter, never allow those ones that wear uniform ie ikeja electric uniform to inspect your meter. They are not authorized to check your meter, bad ones among them use scope tk check your meter and then by it without your consent. They will they go behind your back to report you to meter official who will now fine you and put you on direct connection which means you will be getting huge bills to pay every month(the main motive).
Back to your matter, the guy that install your meter did you dirty. He was the one that by it without your consent then likely reported you meter officials. As you can see he is already helping you out to retrieve your wire.your wire is your property, they shouldn’t have taken it away. They should have used it connect you direct.
You can’t repair the meter anymore. It’s been deactivated from their own side.
Negotiate with them on the fine, pay it and request for another meter. That’s the only way out.

These Phcn are ripping people off but their time are coming to an end soon. Once states starts to oversee their activities themselves, hopefully things will change.

As long as you've been billed LOR and Penalty for meter by, you do not need to be scared anymore. Just visit their office for a payment plan and also to know if the meter can be corrected officially. If yes, fine. If no, you need to apply for a New meter.

Make sure you get official receipt for any payment you're making.

I wouldn't want to request for a new meter as the price for a single phase meter is now 150k and I got it for 100k that year instead of the initial price of 80k...
I hope I get a solution in repairing the meter...

It's a pity electricity providers dont want customers to get meter I will don't why
They made it difficult to get,even tarrif hike na wahala in some areas,they are collecting money indirectly for increase in supply that's why they came up with Bands(A,B,C etc)
Tell me the rate @ which Mr A & B consumes energy is it not the same?but like I said earlier they are collecting money indirectly because supply had improved..,they are extorting the masses & still be complaining of not making gains

But you can't tell me that you're not aware of the meter by.

If you want to come forward be truthful about it.

Go to the office, negotiate a lower sum, and work out a payment plan. Get them to reinstall the meter.

There is no way a meter is byed and the occupant don't know about it

Even if na the one of 800k

It's obvious that you didn't through the right channels to procure your meter. You ve involved 3rd parties, The meter should have been checked for irregularities like these before and after installation. You can appeal the verdict if you have evidence to back up your claims.

How long have u been using this byed meter? Obviously ur installer guy knows all about the mess ure in. He needs to come clean to u or get another installer guy to guide u on the issue and how to rectify it.
