Tinubu Should Learn Some Lessons From NPP’s Fall In Ghana - Jaafar Jaafar (6846 Views)

"Tinubu should learn some lessons from NPP’s fall in Ghana. It is widely believed that corruption, harsh economic policies and arrogance towards the plight of the people are the key reasons that led to the ruling party’s loss.

But this is more than a reflection of what is happening in Nigeria today. Even without the economic hardship Nigerians are facing, Tinubu is walking into 2027 on an electoral tightrope.

The election that brought Tinubu in 2023 bore some similarities with 1979 presidential election in which Shagari won with a minority vote (33.77 percent). Tinubu too won election with a minority vote, polling only 36.61% of the total votes cast, leaving the two leading opponents to share significant chunks.

"You cannot subject people to hunger and hardship if you bank on their on election day. It’s clear Tinubu is relying on repressive state apparatus and a rogue electoral umpire more than the electorate".

The problem with using this formula is that it does not stand a gale of change. When it blows, INEC and security agents will turn against the ruling party as they’re not exempt from subsidy removal, inflation, tax increase, electricity stratification, etc.

Even Ghanaians and Niger etc now know tinubu is a colossal failure. Nothing good will ever come out of a stolen mandate

The fg is sitting on its own hubris and thinks events in Ghana are too far fetched. I always become a bit fearful when the north is spearheading opposition. They made tinubu, they can also mar him electorally. But as usual, his appointees are swimming in the sea of arrogance.

I don't know what these people want? You want Nigeria to change for better, but u want the status quo to remain? Obasanjo, Yaradua, Jonathan, Buhari have all gone through same road, bcs they want to satisfy people and they lack courage but Nigeria remain same with no progress. He chose the most difficult terrain but solution way, we are complaining. So bcs of next election, he should sacrifice development on the platter of reelection? The same thing that Obasanjo, Jonathan and Buhari did priotising re-election over necessity. We truely deserve our kind of leaders. undecided

Jafaar should simply talk to his northern brethren not to vote for him
Nigerians have been taken for granted too much by this clueless istration
There's nothing whose cost has not increased since he took office
Almost as if he's in a race with the devil to see who can snuff more Nigerians out of existence

Nobody is attacking anyone. The opinion expressed therein is simply senseless.

Tinubu go whine you but no panic.

Hemanwel(m): 7:10am On Jan 09
Like someone said above, Tinubu is not relying on free and fair elections to win the 2027 elections. The onus is now on the opposition parties/candidates to put pressure in order to amend the Electoral Act.
For example, INEC should not be the determinant of how election results will be transmitted. The Electoral Act should explicitly state how.

Tinubu has been rejected in the north! He doesn't stand any chance come 2027! And again, this is to remind him that he has less than 870 days to handover power to the next person!

The way Jonathan was removed from government, Tinubu too can be, but unfortunately the opposers are not strong enough. I could the critical backlashes Jonathan got, even though he didn't do up to one-tenth of the nonsense this one is doing. Make I no lie, I follow lash Jonathan that year grin

Now a bigger tyrant is in power, then many people lost their voices. If not that I don't believe in jazz, I would have said Tinubu is a jazzman who jazzed those with strong political backbones.

How on earth is someone wrecking multidimensional havoc in our country in the name of reforms and the opposition politicians are not voicing out strongly? Of course TPain has bribed some of them. This is the time Jonathan himself is supposed to criticize TPain strongly but he seems to be off. He is obviously not a fighter.

As for me cha, I am not always loyal to any politician. If you get there and do rubbish, I will turn against you within one week of assuming office. I don't know how people can be so loyal to somebody to the extent that when he is wrecking havoc, they are very cool with it.

Bulletproof jeeps to the generals for a start. Tinubu will win them all one by one.

What many of TPain ers think is that he won the majority of votes cast. He actually didn't. And rightly said, he's depending on rigging to win the election and nothing else. That's why they will reject electoral reforms. But the fall of APC is coming and it will be sooner rather than later.

Thank you very much for this lengthy epistle. However, did you write the same epistle in of Jonathan when he attempted to implement the same policy (fuel subsidy removal), during which BAT and his cohorts organized protests that nearly toppled his istration?
