Loan companies have taken to social media platform TikTok to shame and mock loan defaulters by posting their port details online. This alarming practice aims to publicly humiliate individuals who have failed to repay their loans, in an attempt to coerce them into settling their debts.

The move has sparked widespread criticism, with many condemning the tactic as unethical and invasive. Privacy concerns are being raised, as sensitive personal information is being shared without consent.

Regulatory bodies and authorities are being urged to intervene and establish stricter guidelines for loan companies to prevent such exploitative practices.

Loan app sparks outrage by posting 87 debtors’ photos online

A loan app, Delinquent Loans, has sparked controversy after sharing photos of 87 debtors online in a bold attempt to recover unpaid loans.

The incident came to light through a series of TikTok videos posted by the app.

Across three separate videos, the platform ed pictures of the debtors, each captioned, “Please settle your loans,” as a public reminder to repay their debts.

The videos, which began trending on Saturday, drew widespread attention and mixed reactions from social media s.

Many people used various platforms to express their opinions on the app’s unconventional approach.

A , King, who identifies as #KingSuleiman27 on X (formerly Twitter), commented, “Has anyone seen the video posted by a loan app featuring pictures of 87 debtors owing them? You better check it out to make sure your picture isn’t among them ooo!”

Prince Olugbade, who tweets as #latmos997, wrote, “As they don post their pictures, make them go collect the money from the general public wey view am, or post am for YouTube use the views settle the debt.”

FaVōuR™, who identifies as fhavourabia, argued, “Actually, if we have a functioning government, these people should be sued for defamation.”

Why you should be cautious about loan apps
Agbalaka, who identifies as #CroBender, noted, “Taking money from shylocks comes with regrettable consequences.”

Other s highlighted the consequences of defaulting on loans.

Smiles Ebony, who tweets as #smileebony, explained, “There’s something all these people don’t understand. After you default on any loan, you will be reported to the credit bureau, and this will affect anyone.”

Emma, who identifies as #Emmabest, raised concerns, stating, “Most of these persons are not aware of this loan. Suddenly, they receive a call asking them to pay back the money they borrowed.”

The loan app’s public shaming strategy has sparked a debate about privacy, ethics, and the legality of such practices. While some the need for debt recovery, others criticise the method as an infringement on individual rights.

The damage is done, they have played their trump card.

After publicly disgracing them what else can they do?

If they were a legal loan company they could have easily notified the authorities.

I ed when a young man took a loan of 6 million on the verge of his white wedding to impress his so called wife to be, his friends and perhaps his in-laws. After the wedding and honeymoon, they came back to level zero.

They started moving from house to house to begging people for the money they can use to pay back the loan. Sold some properties, it wasn't easy for them, it was terrible.

Sense is truly far from some people.
This 2025, anything/app that will make you spend or take loan avoid it completely.

As someone said above, if they were legit, they would have gone through legal means to retrieve their money but because they're not, they can only use blackmail to do so.

People should as much as possible live within their means to avoid such embarrassment because the people they want to impress with their extravagant lifestyle don't care but will even mock them when the loansharks post their pictures all over the place.

Will they still expect the defaulters to repay back after naming and shaming them?

What FG can't do to name and shame the corrupt amongest them, ordinary loan app is doing.

I know someone who took a loan of 300k.

He defaulted in payment for close to a year and when he finally had money, he still refused to pay up.

Instead he used the money for other family and personal things.

Some people deserve all the disgrace, let's face it.

At times it's very difficult to get funds but loan app should not be an alternative. My issue is flexi that palmpay put in their app. At times u will want to withdraw money from your and u will mistakenly press their flexi. They won't even give u the chance to correct it. They will credit you and demand for interest immediately. Is there anyway one can remove this totally

I don't think a human can be this foolish. I doubt this story.

Who gave him 6m? If he can access 6m then he was doing a job that can at least cover for that. The story is not clear abi he lost his job?

How can a jobless person borrow 6m just like that, then return to zero after wedding and started begging.

I reiterate, the story no clear as no human can be this stupid. Or the the person who borrowed must be beyond foolish as well.

No collateral for the 6m loan abi online loan apps now give up to 6m?

I hope this has paid the loan?
The interest on their loan can sniff out life from a living . The funniest part of it is that they keep increasing the interest
