So recently I got a job which office is situated on the island of Lagos but I live on the mainland. My current job is also on the island but it is hybrid which makes me convenient for me to do some little errands to earn money to survive.

The problem is that the pay in the offer letter which is between 100 to 110k is not what we discussed during the interview, it is half of the amount I told them. I am about to reject the offer as I can't keep up with it and I am planning to reject it politely.

If I remove daily transport and feeding from it, I will be  less with less than 15k and this is not a 3 square meal routine. It is barely a 2 square meal on a 1k per day. Tfare will take me like 1700 per day and it means I can't save any dime on this money.

My current job expires this month and the pay is the same with this new one but just that it is hybrid, I don't have to go to work everyday as I can work from home and also go to office. It is favourable as I could save some money and also attend to the responsibilities on my neck like house rent, utility bills, and family things, mind you, I am not married and I do not have a girlfriend.

Also I am running an ICAN programme that will consume money and time but the issue is that the money offered by this new job can only cover up for my tfare and feeding...

I am about to reject the offer but I need nairalanders opinion, am I making the right decision?

I am still applying for more role... I work as a finance personnel and I have more than a year experience.

To be honest, my interest would have to secure a position in an auditing firm as a trainee. I have no experience in auditing but I want to build a career in this profession before I finish my ICAN programme but the problem is that I am yet to get the opportunity.

I am a fast learner as in very fast learner,Communicate excellently, pay attention to details and I enjoy multitasking.

Please advise me before I reject this offer

100,000 on Lagos Island that is serious. But come what is the prospect of the job can it give you better visibility to customer that can help you.
Better concentrate on your side hustle full time

I need to add that nothing comes easy. The easiest way to get stuck/stagnated as an ant is to work with an organisation without structure which 98% of schools in Nigeria falls under as they are mostly one man/woman business.

Even if you don't get retained in the Multinational, that experience is enough for you to get into another multinational or a better company compared to a school.

As for the workload, I don't think there is any organisation without its distinctive workload if you really want to work. One thing that can work for you in the multinational is that you will always be exposed to productivity tools that make your work easier. With time, the workload won't cumbersome as it used to be. You just need to edit a previous powerpoint, plug in new numbers to an existing financial model, Use gemini or other AI tools to gather your thoughts and use your own words to make it your own intellectual property.

Just tell them it's not what you expected from them.
Let them know the reason the take home is not in your best interest and as such they should consider what you asked for.

The work is more for skilled workers. Pipe filters and argon welders take about 500k with other benefits. Scalfoldders, electricians, riggers and others take about 250k or more with other benefits. Bonny is a local government in rivers state. Crossing the sea to this place from porthacourt is about 1hr using speed boat

I know your type. You posted it here to flex your offer because regardless what we say will not affect your final decision. grin grin

Why would a person be flexing with a job that pays just 110K on the island?

That's shitty money undecided

Have you discussed with your current place of work to know if there's a chance of extending your contract?

If that won't be possible, then hold unto the new job while still searching for something better. Staying off the labour market is very dangerous at the moment.

You need a job to keep you business and active.

Okay
You need to re-negotiate of the offer.
If it's an ant role, I doubt if they'll give you some days off during the week but they can do better with the remuneration.
You will also need time to study for your ICAN program. It's not easy to on your own.
So, the Ball is in your court.

Rubyjade, can you meet them in that firm to renegotiate?
After all you said what you were told was different from the offer you're getting.
If renegotiation to a favourable term can't be met, reject it. It's better to reject an offer before accepting it than to accept the offer and later be regretting or you do anyhow to get sacked. That's a dent on ya CV.
Use any free time you have to look for other sources of income that has favourable to you.
Ignore all those people that enjoyed suffering that's telling you to manage N100K - N110K in this harsh economy. Can you afford 3 square meals? Assist yourself not to talk of any dependant? Your gf sef go leave you for one Yahoo boy cos of sapa. grin

What do you do with that?

It's best to have a job at hand, so I'd say accept that but if you are big on taking risk, reject it and keep applying.

I think you should politely explain your dilemma to them as reason why you find it difficult to accept the offer. They just might be considerate and shift ground. I like the fact that you know what you want and you are working towards it. Keep it up & best wishes.
