There was a time that having a president and his vice come from the same faith was unthinkable in this country. What do we have today? And before anyone starts getting any ideas, kindly let it be clear that this same faith ticket is for one faith only. There is no equal opportunity here - let's be absolutely clear.

The agitation for Sharia law was a long running battle in Nigeria for many, many years. It was a controversial issue during the 2nd Republic but the agitators could not get their key demands approved by lawmakers. Until...Sani Yerima came on the scene 23 years ago as the arrowhead of adoption of sharia law by sub-national governments. And here we are today.

For years, there was a standard dress code for lawyers called to the Nigerian Bar. Until a certain Amasa Firdaus challenged the practice in 2017 and refused to attend the ceremony unless she was allowed to wear a hijab. This cost her almost a year in lost time but in the end she won and changed a 50 year practice - and set a precedent. And here we are today.

If the decision has been made by the powers in Nigeria to establish sharia courts for civil and criminal offences in Oyo then it will come to . It has nothing to do with talk about being liberal and whatnot. It will happen - if it is on the cards. All that's left now is to see what the future holds - and how things pan out - as decided by the men who own Nigeria. But to say it won't happen? That isn't realistic at all.

I think Lagos has 2 Shariah istrative s, one in Agege and another in 1004 estate. Probably, they've not been so active or well patronised. More people patronise the Customary Courts and Magistrate/High courts.

To know if Sharia law is right, look at Nigerian States that have already implemented it. Then ask yourself if those states are going forward or backward..

I wish it's truly that simple. It often starts like that. Later non Muslims get harrassed or tried for blasphemy, alcohol drinking, improper dressing etc. Extra judicial killing comes into play. Deborah, Akaluka etc
