The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa has explained the reason behind the numerous military checkpoints in the Southeast region of Nigeria. He stated that the presence of these checkpoints is largely determined by the terrain.

He analysed how open areas require fewer checkpoints, while more closed or challenging terrains necessitate greater military presence to prevent enemy movement. While he acknowledged that the South East and the South West has the same kind of terrain, he noted that the current threat level in the Southwest is relatively low compared to the Southeast.

He said in an interview with Arise TV, ''It is because of the terrain; we operate based on the terrain. If the terrain is open, it's less; if the terrain is closed, it's more. Because if you don't do that, you give the enemy the ability to move around freely[b].

[b]The threat level in the South West isn't that much, so that is the issue. The thing is that if we make mistakes, people get killed, and people feel we're not doing our job. So, we have to take whatever it is that we need to do right to ensure that we secure the individuals in the South East
.

Sometimes it could be difficult; sometimes it could be painful, and it seems as if we're being very hard, but it just depends on the situation. We don't just like to come and impugn on people; we don't like it, but sometimes we're forced to do it because that's the only measure we need to take at that time. And once it gets better, we pull out.''

You are mad. What has your numerous checkpoints achieved in the south east . Nothing. When did the south east become volatile compared to how long the military has waged this unseen warfare

1million military checkpoint plus extra during the yuletide yet the criminals and criminal activities keeps multiplying.
It's safe to say our security agencies are cashing out from this checkpoints and insecurities.

South East will still excel

North is very safe. Simply hit the hammer on the nail, south east generates more revenue for you people. Close and open terrain indeed

Story for the gods, the checkpoints have failed to reduce crime while leading to excessive high level of extortion and discomfort. Modern security forces uses intelligence rather than checkpoints that are easily attacked by unknown gun men. Funny enough, Niger state is under immense security threat of the scale unimaginable in the southeast yet there's very little military checkpoints there nor does the very few checkpoints there collect money or cause discomfort to the the locals.

Now imagine there's no military checkpoints in the southeast, how do you think the whole region would have become?.

This is just not a FAIR EXCUSE..
It's even a very big lie.

There are terrains we really need them to have up to 100 checkpoints..
But you won't see them there.
NOT EVEN ONE CHECKPOINT..

..

THEY WOULD CLUSTER THEMSELVES ON THE EXPRESSWAYS CLOSE TO CITIES AND TOWNS WHERE THERE ARE LOTS OF CIVILIAN ACTIVITIES.

My question is.... what's the function of the Nigeria police force?
I am asking same question..

..

If the police is working,, there won't be any need for NSCDC and Peace-Corps and Community Vigilantès..

But here we are.
And yet, the police don't even care.

Shey una hear? They are not going anywhere. If you no want them, go there and give them SLAPS, show them that you are great warriors. Go in your thousands and SLAP sense into the head of the Soldier Ants. It will be a good population control strategy, as we will meet at Jesus’ feet.

The unknown gunmen are already giving them the slap you suggested.

With all the bandits, boko haram and killings in the North, how many military checkpoints did you put there. Did you even deploy this your terrain tactics in the North to checkmate the rate of kidnappings and killings.

They move freely in the North, burning villages, killing people like fowl and commiting crime with reckless abandon.

We appreciate what you are doing in the East however, we urge that you deploy same in all volatile regions in the country for abrupt sanitation of crimes.

Those checkpoints should remain indefinitely... at least people can move without unnecessary fear... criminals are the ones against the checkpoints
