Smile 2 (2024)

Now, I want a "Smile Cinematic Universe".

The first installment was a surprisingly brilliant horror spectacle, and this second part took all the good elements of the original and amplified them x100. Holy sh*t!

There’s a small "bridge" at the beginning to connect it to the first movie, but from that point onward, it becomes its own film. A pop star, with all the expected nuances...substance abuse, mental health in shambles takes over from the therapist in the original and enters a daring game of cat and mouse with the Smile entity.

The best part about the film is that it doesn’t try to explain where the Smile entity came from or how to defeat it, like most typical horror movies. Instead, it dives headfirst into chaos, delivering scintillating jump scares and thoroughly messing with your sense of reality, constantly blurring the lines between what’s real and what’s not.

And Naomi Scott! What the actual hell? Where did she pull that all-timer performance from? I seriously didn’t think she had it in her. It’s just top-class acting.

There’s a reason why the horror genre has been the standout in cinema this year, and Smile 2 epitomizes that fact. I wouldn’t mind if they made this every few years with a fresh cast and setting.

I’ll definitely be watching this again, though preferably not in a dark room like I did last night 😭.

An easy, easy recommendation for anyone who loves horror movies that make your heart leap.

8/10

Top tier film. You just reminded me to drop my review. Watched it few days ago. Easily one of the best of the year. Naomi Scott gave an Oscar worthy performance. I don't think I've seen her in anything before this film, but she's brilliant.
I will easily carry the nomination shouts people are giving Demi Moore and give it to her. She was that impressive.

Brooooo....Naomi Scott totally owned the role 😩😩, like wtf?.... deserves every accolades she is getting and more.... terrific performance!

The film is itself is just top shelf material like you alluded, i have never seen a sequel that is so much better than the preceding part in a like this one, in a long while. it's one of the very best out this year...There is a particular jump scare that nearly took me out maann, literally came out of nowhere 😩😩😅....this was a proper popcorn horror flick..so so good.

I don't know if it's the same scene you're talking about but yes, there was a particular jumpscare scene that actually took me out. grin I was expecting it but the shït overly delivered and made my heart get a little skip. grin grin That scene where she went to see the drug dealer. The moment the werey was running out of the room when he went to bring the stash, after he got possessed. That scene was gold.

Do you know that the actor was Jack Nicholson's son?? grin grin

That was scary as well, but the one i am on about, is the one at the tail end of the flick, when she was fighting her demon self 😩😩, the camera panned away, and returned unexpectedly booom! 😩😅

Yesss, the resemblance is so striking....The scene with him and Naomi Scott arguing in the car was pure gold, the camera angles were so great...proper cinema...

He even gave a shot reminiscent of one his dad's from "The Shining" 👌🏿

The Piano Lesson.....8.5/10

Top tier drama movie. Top acting from the cast. An Oscar worthy performance for John David Washington and Daniellé Dëàdwyler. Samuel L Jackson as well giving a worthy ing performance. This is the most convincing acting I've seen from J.D Washington. I'm impressed. I I and Jerome downgrading his acting chops a while back. I'm yet to watch prolly his best film tho in BlackKKlansman.

I seriously hating on Ray Fisher some years back, grin but I was pleased with his acting performance in this one. Really good with that weird southern accent. I liked his character. 😅😅

It's a story about the history of a Black Southern family and their dark roots with racism and repression. It's a top tier drama that slowly gravitated into a ghost horror drama at the end. The storytelling and writing was top tier and I was all in for the whole ride right from the start.
The commanding performance from all the actors involved was top tier.

That musical performance from all the men in that scene was a powerful and beautiful rendition.

A very strong feature directorial debut for Malcolm Washington — son of Denzel Washington. Both his sons collaborated to give a salacious story. One of the best films of the year.

I'm seriously hoping Daniellé Dëàdwyler don't get overlooked this year at the Oscars like last year.

This scene was top tier. grin The number one horror film that used jumpscares right and it actually worked on me.
Other jumpscares in horror films recently while might make me slightly lose a beat usually elicits an opposite reaction from me — I'd start bawling with laughter. 😂

Yeah.... He represented his dad well. ✌🏽

SMILE 2......8/10

Top tier horror film. One of the best film 2024 has to offer. Didn't waste much time trying to do unnecessary explanation and easing into the horror stuff. This just went to business straight out the gate.

Naomi Scott dropped an Oscar worthy performance no other horror film actor had delivered this year. She was so convincing in her turn to madnéss. Different shades of personality and range delivered by one person. She deserves praise for such fine work.

I had a doubt whether this one would live up to the greatness of the first, but this one actually sured it and matched the hype I've been seeing all round for it on social media.

Top tier horror flick with really good nuance and more character focused than most horror films.
That ending was top notch execution and fine writing.

Now that entity can spread wildly at an alarming rate with the level of exposure the possession of a music pop star has given it. I never thought they'd go through that route — but they did and it was befitting of the story they're trying to tell.

This glaring and continuous promotion of WICKED is becoming annoying.

I can bet with my left ball this film ain't even amongst the top 10 films of this year. But this continuous promotion by these Hollywood journalists just to sway voters and chatter around these films. Variety being the № 1 culprit.

something made me that movie last week - the curse where the woman put 20 years each day and at the end of the movie she was desperately trying to catch the guy as a 60 or was it 80 year old woman

that was towards the end.

It's among the scene of the movie that made me go back and rewatch it, after so many years. The movie still made alot of sense, despite being a video old movie.

I never did forget that curse. It's forever itched in my mind. What a way to deal with someone you don't like. Wow.

Just saw it now.

The acting, drama, setting, costume, talents, controversies are top-tier but I found the ending a bit woke: more like virtue signalling. Like I could understand the intention behind the film's ending but it's a bit too convenient if I must say. Overall, a good watch though
