Let me first make this assertion before I come back to state GDP.
Base on the stat submission on the IGR generation per region, aside from the first two, that is SS and SW, SE faired better than the rest regions, that is NC, NW and NE, if we have to base it on the total population and the number of states in each region.
As it stands today:
SS have 6 states
SW have 6 states
SE have 5 states
NC have 7 states
NW have 7 states
NE have 6 states
If you have to do IGR generation per population, you will discover that the only two regions that fair better than SE are SS and SW.
That they arranged the region based on the amount generated doesn't mean the one at the bottom is the poorest. We just need to learn basic arithmetic.

Going back to the GDP. Aside from Lagos, Rivers an Akwa Ibom states no state has stronger GDP than Imo, and all SE states fair well on GDP.
