Time to cut my losses with Nascon and Dangote Sugar. Alhaji doesn't seem interested in any other business in his Group other than Dangote Refinery.

Dangsuga might even go below ₦25 in the coming days.

Most of the Consumer Goods stocks are now delivering improved and better results, why should the cost of sales be this high?
Even HONEYWELL delivered good result.....
Alhaji owe the shareholders explanations on this at least. sad
The way I dusted my slippers today ehn, I'm glad I listened to the inner voice... Because this hopeville for DS matter don tire me... It's looking like the refinery halted the progress of all other Alhaji's businesses. It is well

Alhaji maybe the one with the genuine results. Me I am sceptical of all these "fantastic" results being released by most of these companies and banks. Smells like 2006.

Reactions to results released so far have been interesting.

For those that have been condemning Aradel's result, can you please do a comparison to that of Seplat and share your findings? cheesy Best practice is always a like-for-like or industry comparison.

Aradel is currently outperforming Seplat in my opinion and it's still very much cheaper too.

Please note that I didn't consider the potential impact of Seplat's acquisition of Mobil assets in my assessment.

Disclaimer - This could well be one of the many occasions I overlooked critical factors. Please do your own research.

I analyzed DS on several occasions, foreseeing challenges that others did not seem to take seriously. I demonstrated why backward integration would be difficult and time-consuming (long term strategy, and will take years and conciderable investments) , and I highlighted the significant issue of negative equity, especially in the context of high interest rates. I also compared DS with BUA Foods to underscore its inefficiencies. Additionally, I explained why owning businesses within the same group does not guarantee they can each other effectively.

Similarly, I pointed out MTNN's negative equity issue to mcy56, noting how problematic this is in the current economic climate. I presented facts, but some people preferred to ignore them, focusing on emotions rather than evidence. The posts are here, as are the criticisms of them.

It's funny how people twist reality to make it bearable—suddenly, all the good results are dismissed as fables, and now DS’s results are considered the standard.

What delusion can't do no dey, see how somebody is thinking because thier fingers are about to get burnt the more. 🤔

Increase in price of raw material - sugar, labour and freight expenses might have a toll on DangSugar's profitability. The +ve thing is that the coy's revenue YoY increase of about 56.4%. Alhj should find ways to address these high operational costs. Probably all attentions are on the Dangote Oil refinery now

That DS journey will be long o. Sugar doesn't take a year to grow sha... Backward integration should be yielding fruit soon, except for security reasons(if existing).

So, all the companies with negative equity due to currency devaluation, like MTNN, NESTLE and others, are now building refineries. The irony is that the refinery has nothing to do with it—they've been at a disadvantage since entering negative equity, compounded by poor efficiency.

Where is cornerstone making these billions from?

Imagine 24B naira profit

While I praise all these insurance stocks, this time around I give it to prestige

Prestige is another veritas kapital.

Let's see how far it will get to.

I once said "insurance will be insuring". It goes with the proposed economy. Also, their has been a surge in number of health insurance acquisition(Just one product). I think 2*million now. That number is still poor for a population of ~200m.
Go an get an Insurance cover if you dont have one, btw grin!!

Description of Biological Assets (Note 17 of 2023 Financial Reports)

Biological assets consist of growing cane, which is expected to be harvested as agricultural produce for sugar production. These assets have been measured at fair value less the cost to sell. As of December 31, 2023, the group has a total of 8,283 hectares of growing cane (2022: 8,092 hectares).

Yield Estimation and Sugar Production Potential

The yield of sugarcane varies significantly based on factors like soil quality, climate, and farming practices. We can make a rough estimate using the following assumptions:

Average yield: Approximately 60-100 tons of sugarcane per hectare per year
Given area: 8,283 hectares
Conservative estimate: 70 tons per hectare

This results in:

8,283 hectares times 70 tons/hectare = 579,810 tons of sugarcane per year

The amount of sugar produced from sugarcane also varies, but on average:

1 ton of sugarcane yields about 100-110 kg of sugar

From our estimated yield:

579,810 tons times 100 kg/ton = 57,981,000 kg or about 58,000 tons of sugar

Future Independence Projection

Achieving full independence in sugar production will take much more than four years. The Dangote Refinery has an installed capacity of 1.44 million tonnes per year, would require about 24 times its current (8,283 hectares) size.

Based on the balance sheet, the value of the biological assets increased from 6.9 billion to 14.4 billion while the land area increased from 8,092 hectares to 8,283 hectares. Acquiring an additional 191 hectares likely cost around 7.5 billion, indicating that acquiring sufficient land to meet the refinery's capacity would require approximately 7 trillion naira (or 336 billion, ok i am getting conflicting numbers and i am sleepy too grin ).

In conclusion, substantial investment and expansion are needed to achieve the desired production capacity.

Note that I used help of Claude to make this assumptions.

grin grin grin

Backward integration will take years and huge investment in land and produce, for now, importation of raw sugar is unavoidable.
