Please how is it like renewing a Nigerian port in Canada, please can someone share his/her experience. Is it better to do it online or physical

Guy, don't pay anything. Maintain your stand. If you need to show them some level of madness, pls do.
They asked me to pay 15k as istrative fees and I told them I won't pay because it was not stated on their website.
The guy insisted that it is not all information they put on their website, but I refused.

If they insist, make them believe that you're recording them, especially if they have their name tag

I had to go and find my details in order to contribute to this thread because I got inspiration and "ginger" from here. I want to share my DIY experience using the Ikorodu port office. I can tell you for free that some people living in Ikorodu don't even know there's a port office there.

I applied for my renewal online and ed all ing documents. I used a port maker app to edit my picture to the right spec. I made payment using the Paystack option and I was able to complete it using bank transfer. There's a 2k processing fee, so total amount I paid was 52k. I submitted my application and got the "application received" email. I did all this on Friday 11th October, 2024 and I went ahead to book appointment for Monday 14th October, 2024. I was given a 3pm slot.

On Monday morning, I received an email that my application had been approved and that I could go ahead to book appointment. Me wey don book appointment since Friday. I didn't know I should have waited for approval before printing application form. So I printed the vetted application form and carried along with my receipt and all my ing documents in case they decide to ask.

I got there around 3:05pm. I greeted the officers at the gate and they asked whether I was there for collection or capturing. I said it was for capturing and I was told to go inside. At the entrance to the building, another officer asked if I paid online or someone was "in charge" of my application. I said it was the former and he said I should go to SERVICOM. The officer who attended to me at the SERVICOM unit asked for my documents and I gave him the application form, receipt and appointment slip. He asked to see my expired port. I had forgotten to make a photocopy of it. I went outside to get it done. I stapled everything together and went back inside to give them to him. He looked over everything and he told me to go and wait outside for me to be called.

I sat down under the pavillion there and was thinking it was some delay tactic I read they play on people who do DIY. Mind you, I was the only one there. The whole place was empty. I was sha pressing my phone. A few minutes went by and I saw one guy walking into the building. He was there for capturing. Not long after, the officer who attended to me came to call my name and directed me to the capturing room. The guy who walked in earlier was seated in front of the camera. When he was done, I sat down to capture too. The officer capturing me even cracked a joke about how many plots of land I'll give him when he saw that I'm from Ikorodu. He asked questions to confirm my details. He took my picture and biometric and wrote a number on a card and gave it to me. I guess I'm to bring that for collection.

I left the place and when I checked my time, it was 3:32pm. I didn't spend up to 30 minutes there. I'll probably just go there next week Monday to see if my port is ready.

I wrote this just in case it helps someone who's searching for information online just like I did before finding this thread. I'll keep it in mind to write an update when I collect my port.

Wait till you get the approved email.fhat is what confirm you have completed. You can the print out the appointment form and other documents

Don't go if you you don't have it. Even if you go to the PORT office after your appointment day it's okay.

Can I use the photocopy of my Birth certificate and Local government of origin?
I lost the originals to theft but I have the clear photocopy.

I don't think the will collect it... But give it a try.

I took the bull by the horn to apply online, even though my kids were fresh application and mine was a renewal with COD- change of Data. That of my Kids were straight forward and was ready around 5 weeks after capturing. My application was a different ball game, since 26th Aug 2024, it wasn't vetted even when my kids port were ready. I was asked if I know anyone at Abuja, I replied NO! They all said eh approval is from Abuja o, and that it will cost me money. I refused to pay the 80k they demanded. but God willing it was vetted 7th Oct 2024. I rushed to the center that morning to capture. All the officers were surprised ; now that my face looks familiar to them cos I keep disturbing, after collecting my original documents stating reason for change of data, the officer to approve refused to approve saying my old port was damaged. We dragged and dragged I had to pay 20k ( with frustration) to clear it just to get captured.
After capturing since then my application still hanging, I was told data change can only be effected in Abuja. The person who vetted it online should have attached approval letter.
It's so frustrating how civil servants make life difficult. I have NIS ... No headway, met all those officers. Their bills range from 50k to 80k even those officers at Abuja... My concern now is not just the delay but what if they go on to produce a new port without effecting those change I paid for.
I forgot to mention the application fee was 35,000 + change of data 30,000. + Bank charges 2,600.
Am thinking if I should wait possibly they won't have choice but to approve like they did on vetting before.
Conclusion is we are the one pulling this country from moving forward.

Is the application online and DIY now? I just applied online, what should I do next?

Applying for my port online was surprisingly straightforward! I filled out the application form on the official DFA appointment website ed the necessary documents, and paid the fee with just a few clicks. The process was -friendly, with clear instructions at each step. Now, I just have to wait for my port to arrive in the mail exciting times ahead for future travels!

Did you not gibtintheir office on ur scheduled date?

The new system do not require for guarantor's form... So just go with your photocopy and original documents just incase they ask to see the original... I did my biometric on 6th of this month and no guarantor's form required

Pls I had my first port in early 2005, but can't trace it or it's number for any renewal. Moreover it has my old name I don't use again. What should I do? I have already applied for a new online but not made payment yet.

You should have visited immigration office to help you with your previous port information before applying for another new ..

Its just a technical issue. It will come back yo normal but I'm still confused as to why its yet to be issued after 2months

Can I change my sister port office from Edo state to Lagos state?

For one month now, they have not approve my sister port application to (vetted) because we thought Benin City will be faster than Lagos since she stays in Edo state.


I choose Lagos for my capturing, mine was so fast, and capturing done since 2weeks. Am currently thinking of changing it to Lagos, so that she can come over to Lagos and do it.

Good day folks. I applied for the ECOWAS International port about 8 weeks ago and was asked to come next week for collection, but before then i had two other port the last one expired in 2011 but i misplaced the one i had before this very last one, all these was before the introduction of the E-port port. Furthermore, I had ask the lady if my case was renewal or fresh application and she told me since i had never applied for the E-port before, it was more or less a case of fresh application. I even sent the data page of the old port to her for confirmation. She called me yesterday that since i misplaced the penultimate one before the last one which expired in 2011, this one will not be issued that it was a case of lost port which i failed to report. I am confused since the last one i procured is still with me.

Note: This is my first time of applying for the ECOWAS port. Please i need your input/advice on the way forward.

I did my Biometrics yesterday (DIY) December 23 2024, and the print out given to me reads my collection date is March 17, 2025. This is more than the usual 6 weeks.
