A distasteful statement from her, but she is no different from the average migrant who later becomes a naturalised citizen. If given the opportunity, they will bar their kith from entering the country. I won't lie too, I can be that kind of person as well.

It is quite illogical to drop your academic qualifications and professional experience just to pick up a blue collar job. Most people in the UK that are into care and security didn't even make it to the university. It saddens me when I see former bankers, lawyers, risk managers in UK doing menial jobs. How do we plan to transform our own country when the professionals are constantly going on exodus to the UK just to wipe ass. The painful thing is that these folks were comfortable in Nigeria
It's painful, no doubt because these people bring value and human capacity to a Nation but we all know what Nigeria is today.
People can barely feed.
The worst is, the Lawlessness and Impunity have become so endemic that minsters can now threaten humans on live TV, EFCC now investigating EFCC, people only get fired on social media..how naa?

It wasn't this bad during OBJ.. Neverrrr.
Humans have to look for quality of life.
Your quality of life should come first above profession, except the profession gives you the desired quality of life.
But that's not the case for a lot of people in Nigeria.

My Elder sister, a professor in Nigeria now does Carpool with her colleagues just to get to the university every morning to teach. She told me so. Her car is parked now.

I do not blame her.
I know of some person's here in the UK who do not even know how they got here.
They don't even know the cost of the flight tickets that brought them here.
Their parents did everything for them.
Back in Nigeria when I was processing my port, I had to follow up the rigorous process to get my port at the Abuja port office in Sauka along Airport road.
After you must have applied and met all the requirements of guarantors and all that.
Before the data capture will get to your turn, you will be frustrated.
I know of some young boy's then, when I started my process I could recognize almost the faces of everyone that use to take their numbers daily and que up for capturing.
But these boy's never came one day.
The only day they came, it was some of the immigration officers that called them to come for their capturing. After the capturing, they entered their car and drove off.
That is why we need to hustle hard, so that nobody will talk to our children like this.
We need to make the way straight and smooth for our children.

She is sending a message to those who play the ostrich by denigrating the people who accept to do those jobs... what the heck?
She is sending a message to the policy makers, telling them that they can do better. Immigrants should be allowed to maximise their potentials without prejudice.

Sometimes although I’m not religious like that I genuinely pray Nigeria finds a way out of the mess it is in Currently

Like even if it’s for the currency to be stable to stay in one place for 5 years

Do you know how many lawyer friends I know that I slaving thier lives away washing bum bum because £1 is equal 2,000 naira

Like do you know how many professionals are lost forever in the abroad .

Jobs that British citizens will never do no matter how much you pay them.

Then they pay citizens of 3rd world countries who haven’t seen money before. Those ones even take it too hook line and sinker and slave away their lives

Why can’t these people come and do the same care job when £1 was 200 naira

I have 2 school businesses in Nigeria, I don’t even pray for the schools again, it’s the Nigeria economy I pray for like it needs to rebound and grow so a middle class can grow again.

It will take some years cos the damage in the last few years took some years too.

But the idea is if the currency stabilises, the economy grows . Again a rich middle class can grow again

Just like when the first damage was done in 1983, after some years notable 1990-2003 even up till 2011. A rich middle class grew

God please help your country

Like if you know how many people Japa and left thier careers to be cleaning bum bum these last 3 years you will open your mouth and won’t close it back

God pls fix Nigeria

Again, by referring to the immigrant choice of work as bottom wiping? Referring to them as bottom wipers— recall that these people were not forced to accept these positions, to begin with— is a form of prejudice for Pete's sake!

Agreed at the bold. But these people campaigned and voted for Buhari in 2015.

They should not complain.

Varied public transport systems should be well developed in the country. Where I live, the executives use the train. Cars are parked at home and used during the weekends. It is mostly housewives and other well-off folks I see drive exotic cars during weekdays.

The rivalry in Nigerian tribe will still be a setback if eventually she qualify to lead the conservative party. Will other non yorubas in the UK vote her? Just a harmless question.
Lol! The majority of Nigerians in the UK are Yorubas. So, hypothetically, if only Nigerians are to vote in an election, she will win based on tribal affiliation. Your question should be thrown to white people who make up the Conservative Party biggest group. Would they want to have a black African woman who was born and bred till teenage age as the party's leader?

P.S. She has done well for herself though. Much respect.

■ She is not saying it is wrong. What she is saying is that there can be more to that. Can everybody become a Certified Nursing Assistant? This thing is simple.
There can be more than that in what sense? The country hires those who are trained as CNAs from other countries when it is unable to fill its need for CNAs from within, right? Countries equally invite other professionals for various positions when they find it has needs that cannot be filled locally. So, your question — can everybody become a Certified Nursing Assistant?— does not compute at all. undecided

Nigerian-born British politician Kemi Badenoch mocks migrant workers, describe them as “bottom wipers” in now viral video.

Badenoch was born in Wimbledon, London. Her parents are of Nigerian origin. Her childhood was spent in part in Lagos and the United States. She returned to the United Kingdom at the age of 16.

I don see nothing wrong with what she said. Please let's stop spreading false news.

Is it really that hard or bad to get a good job in the non-care industry? You mean employers are not sponsoring foreign students even those with degrees from British universities? shocked

What she did was put a mirror to the mind of the policy makers, making you see the reflection which is what goes on in their heads. She's letting you know that immigrants aren't highly thought of by the policy makers and that has to change.

She couldn't have meant to mock any group.

She said she had conquered fear because she came from Nigeria where fear is the order of the day.
She was robust in debate and attracted the highest number of prolonged applause more than her counterparts. The smile on her lips each time she stopped speaking due to prolonged applause was radiant. The smile can change the attitude of a most hostile person towards her.
If not for the deep-seated..... in UK society, she should win the Conservative party leadership.
You mean like the deep-seated.....in Nigeria, if not an Igbo man should not be bashed for aspiring to become Nigeria's president?

It is always funny to read Nigerians accuse others of racial or national discrimination. grin grin

Mirror? Reflection? Where? undecided

2. Assuming what you claim is in fact what she intended, she could have done that more effectively without resorting to using such a derogatory reference! There are immigrant doctors, IT professionals, Engineers, etc., in that same country. Why reduce them all by referring to them as bottom wipers? undecided

It hurts to know that Nigerians abroad, especially in the UK have accepted to become subservient and accept the most demeaning jobs. People proudly apply for care jobs and still get insulted. The annoying part is that people who were doing well for themselves in Nigeria left everything just to accept this denigrating lifestyle all in the name of seeking greener pasture.

"doing well in Nigeria"

For many Nigerians, it was a pick between two bad choices.
and they picked what THEY FELT was the less bad choice

Let's not be disingenuous here. Her statement was denigrating, whatever the context.. I doubt anyone's dream is to clean old people's bottoms but people have to survive.. It's a honest job and the only reason their people are not doing it is because they can sit on their asses and claim benefits instead of working..
Kemi said that as part of her anti-immigrant agenda knowing this will gain her talking points in the media and also, pander to her base.
She forgets that "those whose palm kernels were cracked for them by a benevolent spirit should not forget to be humble"

This thread is a mess. It's almost as if nobody played the video and if they did I doubt if they comprehended what was said. She is not mocking anybody. She is only highlighting the limitations of being an immigrant in a system that can offer much more than just certain types of jobs. Many immigrants are highly skilled in many areas so it should be a case of round pegs in round holes for them. How this flew over so many heads is what I'm actually shocked about.
Most first generation immigrants in the abroad don't like political parties opposed to relaxed immigration or open borders. So don't expect any African or Indian to see her in a good light even if she offers her life for it.

What she is saying is that the same opportunities that avail with the CNA should also avail with other sectors. People have had to train to be CNA's just for the purpose of Japa. Not because they would normally want to be CNA's but because the pay is good and the opportunities that come with it. Kemi wants it to be so across board and not just with the CNA thing. She is covering a broader perspective of the subject. You are only fixated on what you want to be fixated upon.

You need to come to the UK to see for yourself. The truth is that the west is quite receptive to immigrants, but they only want talented immigrants and that is why the UK is doling out global talent visa for talented individuals. I don't have issues with people emigrating, in fact migration is part of human history. However, I would hate to migration that is similar to slavery. I have seen Nigerians in the UK downplay racial slurs, accept disrespect and other derogatory nuances all in the name of japa.

In the same way it equally invites other professionals for various other positions when they find it has needs that cannot be filled locally— I read somewhere that a significant number of doctors in the UK are Nigerian-trained. The same UK also hires IT professionals, ants, and even Lawyers trained in other countries including Nigeria. It is all based on needs— no nation would sensibly embark on hiring and importing workers it has no real need for. So, again your question — can everybody become a Certified Nursing Assistant?— still does not compute at all. undecided

I am not in any way fixated, but trying desperately to understand why you think that arguing that she is speaking broadly somehow resolves her use of the term bottom-wipers about immigrant workers who work as CNAs. lipsrsealed
