Founder of Lagos comic con, Ayodele Elegba featured in today's edition of WUN to discuss the convention set to hold in lagos.
The remarkable growth of Nigeria's comics and animation industry. In the last decade, a new generation of comic artists and animators has emerged, inspired by historical figures, myths, and everyday Nigerian life. And the repercussions are being felt in New York, the home of the massively popular Marvel and DC comics.

Great. Iwaju was great too

No need to create African variants of the usual Caucasian heroes. We have a lot of African stories our artists can draw from. I a Lagos-based (abi Warri-based) youth who made comics featuring Sango, the god of thunder. They were original and refreshing to consume. I being a child, reading some comics featuring super-powered Lagosians trying to make the best of surviving the city’s madness. It was fun. The characters wore regular attires instead of uniforms.

We will have our own and create our own stories.
The oyinbo created superheroes for you, they gave you all white super heroes and these are things they feed us from childhood. These little things count in creating a society with people of inferiority complex where they see the whites as special. Your Jesus and Mohammed are not blacks, they angels are all whites, the superheroes are whites too. Haba!

If they can have Thor, then why can’t we have Sango.
What of Yemoja, or Ogun, or Obatala … they can be made our superheroes too.

Look at Japan , they created their own anime subs Naruto, one piece, bleach to teach their ancient values and stories ed across from many years. And many of us loved those anime
