If you want, you can decide to produce only diesel. When you begin the process of distillation of crude oil, the first products is usually fuel, before Kerosene and then diesel. You can decide to mix the fuel with diesel.

It is possible to process crude and not get petrol and some other products

Meanwhile, you can pick/choose which to produce, depending on the modifications of your refinery.
People don't know what crude distillation is, they just think it's easy as ABC. Gasoline (Naphtha) from crude distillation is contaminated with sulphur and can't be used directly. If your refinery can't process it, you sell to those that have the capacity to do so. Meanwhile, diesel is easy to process, unlike PMS
