I have a family friend who NEVER SMOKED OR DRINK ALCOHOL but battles kidney failure currently.

Liver failure doesn’t always lead to kidney failure.

So not knowing what happened to him, it’s irresponsible and cruel to litter the comments about alcoholism on his case.

Also it’s not the other way around. Liver usually goes first. How can the kidneys go first when alcohol is primarily metabolized by the liver? Some people can develop liver disease, change their ways and their liver recovers . Then they never go on to develop kidney disease if they stay clean.

I’ve taken care of so many patients in liver failure from alcohol abuse whose kidneys are still functioning okay. Not in their best condition but definitely functional whereas their liver has already failed.

You just want to be right so badly so you can feel great about the judgement you’re ing on him.

He does have a point.
The rates of kidney problem in Nigeria is alarmingly high, especially among young people.
It may not necessarily be whiskey but something is going on that's causing such a high rate of kidney problem among young people. It may not be unconnected with alcohol, herbal drinks, recreational drugs and other drugs and concoctions that are so common on Nigerian streets.

Wow! This is so sad, wishing him speedy recovery. What could have led to the transplant failure? His immune system must have made his body reject the new kidney or the kidney wasn't fully compatible with his system.

The quack doctors should have done all their research properly first before going ahead with the operations.

I said more likely to cause liver failure than kidney failure. That doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to never affect the kidneys.

But It’s primarily the liver and it doesn’t always have to end in kidney failure. If this man suffered from alcoholism to the point off kidney failure, he’d have long been sick from liver failure before the kidney transplant.

And I don’t know what transplant laws are applicable where he is, we don’t give kidneys to patients with compromised livers. So he most likely had a healthy liver when he got his transplant. Can’t have a healthy liver with alcoholism. Hence my belief that his kidneys failed for different reasons.

I didn’t say what I said so that I can be on here arguing back and forth. It was just a simple factual statement that didn’t need a rebuttal.
