One parent of Yoruba origin is enough to make one a Yoruba person. That’s how it is and that’s how it has always been.

However, you can have one or even both parents to be yoruba and still not be considered as a ‘full Yoruba’. Being a full member of any culture at all means that you are biologically and psychosocially related to that culture.

Aside one’s biological background, enculturation and socialisation are the second essential things that make one be part of the particular culture one claims he belongs to.
