I have been trying to contain my disgust over the life threatening lifestyle of my landlord and his house hold, but then, it has reached the brim. I would like to make the story short cos I humbly want to seek advice on the best way to tackle this issue at hand.

I live in an environment where we are not that populated in the compound. Every person or household minds his or her business in order to maintain peace and tranquility as well as oneness as was literally advised by the landlord in his preaching of novel peace which has completely been foiled by himself in particular. He has a wife with female children who are all adults. What still baffles me is how the daughters will end up being wives in future. That would be topic for a later day.

Fast forward to early this year, I noticed a leak in the pipe that connects to their own house's toilet and quickly alerted the wife on the need to fix it so it won't deteriorate. When I saw the woman couldn't do much to fix the breakage, I organized some of my neighbours, particularly men, to talk with the husband (landlord). Lo and behold, the man apologized for the inconveniences caused and promised to fix it Asap. Two months down the line in April, we politely met him again to remind him of the dangers of the odour that oozes out of the pit, he again promised to fix it and up until now, the pipe remains unfixed and has completely gone bad, emanating irritating odour all over the compound whenever it rains, mostly my own corner of the building.

At first, I thought about parking out of the compound, but I still have about 6 months' rent running and starting afresh to look for house, the stress, extra payment and all that are not worth engaging in right away. Please what is the best step to take in this situation considering the fact that the wife is a nice and considerate person, just that the husband influences her negatively. I don't want to have issues personally with them. I humbly ask please.

Your landlord haven't seen body-heat, if I were you, e would have long done the needful.

The Ministry of environment would have acted if you complain to them had we a working society. But alas the con3 is long gone.

Call a plumber and do the repair, the money you paid for it will be less than the money you will spend at the hospital. If the landlord is considerate he will refund you to cover his shame.

He should discuss it with him first and see if they can reach that understanding and he issues him a receipt for such upfront part payment.

Last resort if it falls wink This is a minor issue that can be easily fixed, there is always an issue to fix even if it is your own house and you will not pack out na. OP may run into a bigger problem elsewhere if he's too desperate and much in a haste to pack out.

Ask him if getting a plumber is the issue?
Get a plumber and fix it, let him deduct it from your house rent.
You need to breathe fresh air .

All the tenants should collaborate and fix the pipe, it's better. Don't wait for the landlord. I can assure you that it will save you from the stress you are currently putting yourselves through.

Tell him you want to repair it and deduct it from your rent you will pay him that your health is in danger. Or you pay him another rent to enable him fix it.

To be frank, am a landlord, most of time landlords don't have money. Likely that he doesn't have money while he hopes to use part of your rent to fix it.

Economy is hard.

You've already spoken to him. Write a statement on the situation ... attach photos if possible ... get the other tenants to sign at the bottom. Make copies ... then report to the agency responsible for Environmental Protection and the agency responsible for Disease Control. Note the names and titles of the people you spoke with and dates... have a track record of everything done to rectify the situation. Whether the agencies will take action or not should not bother you ... you are doing this for the records.

The situation you describe... the unpleasant odour is not the danger... the danger her is this can be the source of a cholera outbreak and this is difficult to control ... and does spread fast and far. This may prompt the agencies to spring into action and swoop down on the landlord to not only fix the pipe... but clean up the affected area. If they don't take action ... then the agencies can be held responsible for not preventing the outbreak.

Talk with the landlord that you want to call a plumber for repair.Make an agreement that you would get a refund or the money deducted from the rent. Also, begin looking for another place to move because this is sheer irresponsibility on the part of the landlord.Such damages might occur again and they might ignore it,waiting for a tenant to fix it.

How old are you first? undecided All these shameless men we have nowadays, some of them are not ashamed of saying that they still live as tenants at their age. Some of you are not ashamed of yourselves... Young boys of 23 years old that some of you know when they married their mothers are building houses, buying cars worth millions, owning multimillion naira businesses, have hundreds of millions sitting in their bank s, but some of you at your age are not ashamed to say that you still live in landlords house, i spit on your bald heads. The most annoying part is that instead of them to go and Hussle for money, na woman be their number one priority, stupid men everywhere. God please anything that will make me have anything to do with a broke man in rebuke it in the mighty name of jesus.

Seconded. He can even call a plumber to get it fixed, after which he will ask the plumber to approach the landlord for payment... If the tenants have to pay, then it should be deducted for their next rent. Shikena...

Write to State Ministry of Environment or Environmental Sanitation Department of the local Government of your jurisdiction you can tell them you want to be annoymous for safety reason. He will be given time to fix it or have his premises sealed. There is cholera outbreak in over 30 States, don't keep shut and die in silent.
If you reside in Ogun State, message me.
