Onitsha people are immigrants from Yoruba land.

Lies. They migrated from Benin and there are still evidence of that till this day.

He dresses more like the Oba of Benin than any SW traditional ruler. Onitsha as a town, has more resemblance to the Benin kingdom than any town in the SW. The names of some of their streets in Onitsha are of Benin origin. Even some Onitsha people bear names similar to Benin names.

You see that thing that is in Obi of Onitsha's hand? That's what the Benins call Eben. It's origin is purely Benin. Na men wey mount dey hold am. Even Obi of Onitsha beads 📿 na of Benin origin

Reno, Onitsha has always proclaimed they are not Igbo.. Not a new revelation. The city is Igbo City but the people migrated long time ago. I when I used to live at bishop onyeabo, inland town.Every other person is referred as 'nwa onyi igbo' by them.
So calm yourself down. Not a new thing. Now we have integrated
You can see Igbos are accommodating. The obi is even the chairman of the committee of kings in Igbo Land. If you have lived in Igbo Land you will notice the love and care for strangers.
So Igbos accommodated Eze Chime, the founder of Onitsha? And don't Anambra refere to Enugu people as Ndi Wawa ?

If you're an igbo man, you're very small-minded and petty by nature

Pbi of Asaba is not Igbo? Did you watch the video when the king said Ijebu Igbo in Yoruba and is Igbo who didn't migrate to present Igbo land and he also said Igbo artifact are still on Yoruba land as well as Igbo market?

Igwe is used only in Northern Igboland ie Anambra and Enugu States. In other parts of Igboland it is either Eze or Obi.
not quite correct. It was Eze in most parts of Igboland before the present form of traditional monarchy fabricated by Britain. Eze largely means priest. Original Igbo traditional setting has a priest reigning which some call priest king such as the Eze nri while other groups do various other jobs.

Mischief makers who dont understand what the Obi of Onitsha said because they don't understand Igbo language

What the Obi of Onitsha said is that Onitsha are Igbos who initially left the East and ventured to Ife(Ado) but later had a misunderstanding with Ife people, then decided to return home. On their way back, they ed through Bini(Idu), crossed the River Niger and and settled in present day Onitsha. He also said that those Igbos founded several communities along the way back to the East, the Igbos of Delta State(Anioma)

He was adamant that they were initially Igbo, not Ife or Bini. Onitsha was founded by Igbos who were reverse-migrating
as well as Mbaise Onitsha in Imo as well as as Enugu and Ebonyi

it's 2024 and you can't remain a history illiterate forever.

The king said Igbos migrated through Yoruba land to the East and some are still their im Ijebu Igbo till today. And that Ijebu Igbo is an Igbo town where they founded and later left to the East.

To simplify all what the Obi said, Igbo people where migrating and they stopped across several towns like Ife and Benin to rest of which some people stayed back in those towns and others continued their journey to their present place after the River Nile.

No need for long stories.

Thanks for the explanation. I wish our ancestors had written books and ed down. Alot of history was ed on through oral narration. We did not start documenting history till Europeans returned in the 19th century. There were a few European history about Benin/ife connection in the 17th century I think. A Benin prince was also sent to I think Portugal in the 16th or 17th century.

Benin Empire had a representative in Portugal, like we have ambassadors today.

We are not saying we want to share a country with you. In fact, we will be happy to let you bear another name different from Nigeria. However, what we are saying is that there will never be an independent drug trafficking nation in West Africa, not to talk of being Nigeria's neighbor.

That will be another Mexico beside USA. So our advice is that you talk to your fellow drug trafficking nations like Mexico, Columbia, e.t.c. to give you a small piece of land within their own drug farms so that you can migrate your people there. You just need a small piece of land around the area that Mexico, Columbia, e.t.c. are, just a small piece afterall the land you occupy in Nigeria which is split into 5 states is not even up to the size of Niger State alone
I you 100% just as there will never be an independent West African state of ritualists bordering Nigeria to the West.

Who says that Onitsha is not part of Igbo or Biafra? They have continued this propaganda perpetuated by Gowon during the war when he gave the Eastern governorship seat to Asika Ukpabi, an indigent of Onitsha in order to spite Ojukwu who declared Biafra. Ukpabi then rallied around his people and declare their non interest in Biafra

Since that time, some people rode on that ploy that was sanctioned by the northern oligarchs to divide the Igbos. They have successful brainwashed Ikwerre when Gowon visited Port Harcourt in solidarity during the war to distant them from Ndigbo. Till today, that propaganda still stood. They divide and they rule. I know you people might say that Nnaemeka Achebe is a custodian and should know the facts but cultural, linguistically and virtually otherwise, we are not the same with Bini people. If everyone claim to be Bini like Ikwerre people do, then where do Bini from? From the sky? (By the way, I don't even believe that Ikwerre people are not Igbos, because it's like saying, I am from Mbaise, I am not Igbos)

We call God Chineke, and they have theirs. Must everything be linked with the Bini people. Even Lagos State is proclaimed to be Bini original dwelling place, so Yorubas came from Bini too? What is so special about them that everyone else have to come from them? Then change the name of Nigeria to Bigeria
why are pained, grin grin grin

Igbo is a very diverse ethnic group all these confusion is obviously because of the biafran war but yorubas and hausafulanis won't still care to know wether u are from onitsha ado or onitsha eri during the time of war or during presidential elections u all will still be regarded as igbos.

migrating from benin may not mean that they are from benin. It may mean that they once settle in benin may be something happened the decided to move out. The truth is that Igbo and Yoruba not all Yorubas have a lot in common, may even be a bros or a very close relation
The irony is that no part of Bini folklore or oral history ever mentioned Eze Chime, the forebear of Onitsha amd Anioma

Did this guy just shade Ipob?

Damn thats serious
the Imbecilë who wrote that piece lied because the Obi never said Onitsha people and ife are one family.

If Nairaland were a TV station or radio station, they would have collected sanctions beyond survival.

Would you have loved that he denied his ancestry? I can , when Ọọ̀ni of Ìfẹ said this few years ago, hell was let lose by unprintable words from igbos.

The question is which path did the igbos take from Israel to arrive at wherever they started out in Nigeria.

Onitsha has more affinity to Benin than Lagos but Benin and others don't even care because Onitsha has no glory to want to claim.

But Lagos wey be say Benin just colonized at some point, not as if they founded the place is being dragged left and right!

And when people talk about Lagos being owned by Britain,Again lack of glory to want to claim from Enugu, port Harcourt and kaduna has made people not to bring the fact that the 3 cities are the only three cities incorporated and founded by Britain in Nigeria.
Britain met Lagos,Kano,Onitsha,Aba and Ibadan as thriving cities!
what affinity does Benin and Onitsha have?

Lokgisiti? Cultural? Ancestral ?Show us any Bini oral history where affinity with Onitsha people is mentioned

Eze wasn't Priest but King subjectively. Ezeji, Ezede, Ezeogwu, Ezeala, Ezenwanyi, Ezeogo, Ezeagwu etc meant King of different subjects including dieties. Igbos also had Obi as leader by inheritance but different from Eze. Obi was a first son of other first sons and his abode is known as Isiobi.

While Eze is an expert or king of a field Obi is a leader of people. Igbos say "Obi aka Eze" which means Obi even though a leader is not bigger than a King.

Is it any wonder why the Anioma people of Delta state always shout that they aren't Igbos when people try to instill it into the fabric of their own self determination?

Igbos will call the Anioma, Ikwerre and Ika people fake Igbos. When these same people say we aren't Igbos despite the fact that we sometimes bear and speak a section of the igbo dialect the Igbos would start insulting the Anioma people.
If you're an Anioma man, the name of your forebear and progenitor is Eze Chime.

So speak for yourself and not for others.

The Anioma Igbo dialect is way closer to central Igbo than Enugu dialects and even Ebonyi.

There was no question of Anioma Igbo identity until the civil war.

Obi didn't say Onitsha is related to Benin. He only said Igbos while migrating from Ife to the East stopped over at Benin before continuing the journey. He also clearly state that it was Ado and Iduu not Ife and Benin cause they're different Igbos ed before the founding of Benin when that area was called Idu.

This is the most prominent Igbo king agreeing that they are not fully Igbos but migrated from Benin but when Ikwerres say the same thing that they are not Igbos, you see the gully erosion people abusing Ikwerres just because of their lust for Ikwerre oil resources and access to the sea.
They can only rant, they are not getting an inch of ikwerre land

Either you misunderstood what the Obi of Onitsha was explaining or you distorted his explanation in order to suit your own idea or agenda. Mind you that he was speaking in Igbo language, so his message could be easily misinterpreted by anyone who didn't understand the language.

For the avoidance of doubt, Obi of Onitsha mentioned that those Onitsha people that sojourned from Benin and Ife were Igbo people that were already resident in those places. He then wondered whether they (those Igbos resident in Benin and Ife) migrated or were just natural inhabitants of the places they were residing before making the long journey to Onitsha. The Obi speaks my dialect and I understood him clearly.

It depends on what part of Anioma. No one from Anioma associates themselves with igbo. Geographically is it even possible that the people from the hinterland are less original than the people who leave on the fringes?

So I say again Anioma is not Igbo. Plain and simple
