However after the war, Israel gave Sinai Peninsula back to Egypt, Gaza strip and West Bank to Palestine but hold on to Golan heights.

That was the first time in history that Palestinians were able to govern themselves. Their ancestors were pilgrims who refused to go back to their countries of origin. Palestinians were originally settlers from different places.
