Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has said offering palliatives is not the solution to the economic hardship in the country.

Diri made the remark during the Easter Sunday service at the St. Peter’s Anglican Church in his community, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of the state.

He added that even though he was not against palliatives, he is more concerned with putting in place the right structures and systems to address the economic challenges.

He said his istration was initiating policies and programmes that would bring about long-term empowerment to people of the state rather than short-term palliatives.

Diri’s spokesman, Mr Daniel Alabrah, in a statement on Sunday, quoted the governor as explaining that his government was tackling manpower shortage and the skills challenge by establishing technical colleges in the eight local government areas of the state, embarking on skills acquisition programmes building roads to connect the hinterlands as well as other infrastructure that would bring socio-economic empowerment to the people.

He also stressed that the government alone could not provide for everyone and called on the people to get involved in businesses and other meaningful ventures toward adding value to their lives and the state.

He said: “There is nowhere in the world that the government does everything for you. Let us get involved in businesses. Take advantage of our skills acquisition programmes and that way you will add value to yourselves and Bayelsa State. That way youths will become productive.”

On the significance of the Easter celebration, Diri urged the people to learn from the lessons of the betrayal of Jesus by Judas Iscariot and that of the doubting Thomas Didymus in the scripture.

I respect my Bayelsa people but pun intended shame on all your past and current political leaders for not having a clear direction for the state upon the high monthly Oyel money they had and have been receiving

Palliatives have become the hallmark of the Buhari/Tinubu governments since 2015.

He is indirectly shading the clueless baba Agbado emilokan to let into his dumb empty coconut skull that sharing palliative is not an economic policy but the good news is that Emilokan have fulfilled one of his electoral promises which is to show his ers a town hall different from bulaba (buhari) by the time he is done with his ers, they will feel like they are in an IDP camp

All these money that is being shared as palliative will give us a standard healthcare or to equip our dilapidated schools nationwide.

Ramadan feeding is another avenue of looting our common wealth which must be discontinued for the good of the nation.

Yes, he's right. It is just an avenue to waste scarce resources, to allow some people to use it to embezzle, divert and steal.

A Useless SHAMEFUL policy introduced by APC/Tinibu.😕😕

Sharing Rice and Grains to Nigerians as if we are Practicing 19th century Communalism or Nigerians are refugees.😏

This is exactly what i have been saying. These palliative sharing is just a waste of resources.

When you hear the money the government spends to share these palliatives, you will pity the people.

The president and his economic team( if he has any) are incompetent. There are many policies that can cussion d hardship.
Buhari used Npower over 2million Nigerians, conditioner transfer, Nasar Loan and grants, Agric loans and grants, Bank of industry loans , survival fund, COVID 19 loan, CBN loan etc.

Aboki for dat matter. But our Lagos boy is out of ideas. His brainless wife said we should be praying.

The simple truth, I wonder how few measures of rice and cup of oil will solve poverty or empower people.

THIS IS THE WORST PRESIDENT NIGERIA EVER HAD
This Government has turned things upside down. Prices of goods have increased so much that everytime I am thinking of buying anything, I use to wonder if this is realy Nigeria Imaging bag of rice from around 20k to over 30k, or paint measure of Harris from 1,500 to 2,700 (in Lagos).

All the people who have contributed to this will end their latter live in palliative and big suffering the way they have added more problem to people's life.
Otabaotaba31: 8:07am On Apr 01, 2024
It's never a solution and can never be
It's just a means of looting
Them go share 10 naira
But for paper Na 250 billion

Good..

But all the governors are totally useless. Always wanting for the FG.....
CrownedPhoenix: 8:34am On Apr 01, 2024
I am yet to understand the importance of 'Palliatives'

Govt will increase pump price of petrol that affects over 200m people, then offer 50 buses as palliatives or after prices of food items sky rocket, govt will stock warehouses with indomie as palliatives.

I am yet to understand what real effect palliatives have.
Zagee: 8:37am On Apr 01, 2024
If only we could take laws into our hands, Bayelsa would be top on that list to judgement.
Johnjustice: 8:43am On Apr 01, 2024
So empower your people so they won't need palliatives and stop with too much talk.
