The crisis rocking the Labour Party has taken another dimension following an alleged takeover of the party’s istration by its Board of Trustees.
The move comes hours after the National Chairman, Julius Abure, was re-elected at the party’s national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State, on Wednesday.
The convention also saw all of the National Working Committee returned.
The slots for representatives of both the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress were, however, left vacant.
A statement issued in Abuja by the party’s BoT Chairman, Sylvester Ejiofor, however announced that it has taken over the party following the expiration of Abure’s tenure and the ‘charade’ that returned him to office in Nnewi as national chairman.
The statement partly read, “Following the expiration of the tenure in office of the immediate past National Working Committee of the LP headed by Mr. Julius Abure, the BoT, in line with the party’s constitution, has stepped in to steer the affairs of the LP. This step is to avoid any leadership vacuum in the LP.
“Furthermore, the BoT of the LP, in consultation with major stakeholders in the party, will soon communicate the processes for the conduct of an all-inclusive and expansive national convention of the LP.
“This is in line with the March 20, 2018 Federal High Court consent judgment delivered by Justice Gabriel Kolawole which recognised the Nigeria Labour Congress as the owners of the LP and mandated that an all-inclusive and expansive national convention of the LP be held.
“The decision of the BoT is also in furtherance of the agreement signed between the former national chairman of the LP, Mr. Julius Abure, and the NLC and the Trade Union Congress on June 27, 2022, which was mediated by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“Unlike the charade that took place today in Nnewi and in tandem with the principles of popular democracy, the all-inclusive national convention will start with grassroots congresses at ward, local government, state and ultimately at the national level.
“This process will not leave any genuine member of LP out and will be held in the full view of the Independent National Electoral Commission, media, civil society, security agents, and the general public.”
Efforts to get the reactions of the party were unsuccessful.
As of the time of filing this story, the lines of Abure, LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh; Legal Adviser, Kehinde Edun, National Secretary, Umar Farouk and National Youth Leader, Kennedy Ahanotu, were unreachable.
A chieftain of the party, who spoke on condition of anonymity, dismissed the report, saying it was a hatchet job.
“Since many of you journalists have been covering this party, have you heard anything about LP Board of Trustees before? It is non-existent. How can one Sylvester Ejiofor wake up one day, tag himself as BoT chairman, and issue a statement that he has taken over the affairs of the party? Let him come over to the secretariat and take over then.
“Too many people and mercenaries are just bent on causing conflict in the party,” he said.

If Abure is an APC member, obidients won't let us rest with the way they will be wailing about him, but because he's in the LP and ing obi, they are fully ing him.
But they will be shedding bitter tears when other people their parties and candidates.
Obidients will be wailing all over the social media if Ganduje is the one doing all what Abure is doing.

Before the next general elections LP will no longer be significant, it is sad that Obi hijacked the party, destroyed it and I am sure he is planning to run to another party but I believe no political party will accept him except he forms his own party.
By 2025 Obi will no longer be relevant in the Nigeria's political space. Even many of those shouting 'Elu P' are now seeing the true intention of the party's stakeholders.
Any party Obi goes to will still face crisis because of his insincerity and hypocrisy.
'we no dey give shishi' but they have been sharing their loots upandan.
Even Rufai can confirm that Elu P is a stinking party

When the Hausas and yorubas were incharge of the party, there was no issue but now it is their turn, you can see how they have turned everything upside down.
Did you also observed that the key of the NWC executives and BoT are all from the same side of the country.
Go to NLC, you will also observe that the key are all from the same side of the country.
Lesson: Always check yourself in the mirror before you abuse others.

It comes as no surprise that it’s Tinubu minions that are giving the oxygen of publicity to ‘crises and factions in LP’! What’s their concern and obsession with LP and whoever they decide to elect as their chairman!? These are the same schmucks that will have you believe they don’t feel threatened by Peter Obi or LP they claimed is ‘a party of just a handful of people tweeting in a room’!
Fact of the matter is….a thief will always be paranoid and be looking over his shoulder because he knows that which he holds was stolen and doesn’t belong to him!

It will be court cases for them till 2027. By that time, Peter Obi the political prostitute would have moved to KOWA since he has zero leadership skills and always looking for rice that's already cooked.
Till now, Peter Obi has not congratulated Abure. The moment he does, then he is endorsing all the corrupt practices of Abure and his party.

I believe there is a right process for everything. Apc obviously doesn't do the right thing and abure may not have done the right thing also. This is up for clarification by stakeholders as one man cannot hold the party hostage like apc and pdp.

Sharap. Peter Obi keeps carrying division everywhere. Any iboman that critisizes him is quickly labeled an efulefu. Peter Obi is the real efulefu.
Slytiger:
You are also dishonest and dishonourable like Peter Obi. He ended his tenure as APGA governor in 2014. So yes, he was in APGA in 2012 and 2014.
Oye's curse and Ojukwu's curse is still affecting Obi till date.
👇👇👇 "All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, is still feeling the ripples of the recent defection of Former Governor Peter Obi to the Peoples Democratic Party. This has led to Governor Willie Obiano’s senior special assistant on inter party affairs, Chief Ben Obi to let the cat out of the bag on Obi's treachery and betrayal of trust. He(Ben Obi) stated Friday that the late Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu always suspected that the former governor would dump APGA once he was out of this world.
In a chat with journalists in Awka, Ben Obi, who incidentally served as SSA to former Governor Obi revealed that he was present when late Ikemba Nnewi asked Obi three times if he would dump APGA for another party to which the former governor swore he would never do.
According the the SSA, “We grew up together and attended the same school and I knew that Obi is very crafty, which sometimes fail him.
"I saw his defection coming because I worked with him as SSA on inter party affairs and throughout the period he was in court fighting to get his mandate back.
“During his tenure, we were at the Holy Trinity Cathedral, Onitsha when Ojukwu fainted. I had to carry him in my Hummer Jeep to the nearby Waterside Hospital for treatment and as I was singing a song to him, Obi came in. At that point, Ikemba raised his head and asked Obi if he was sure he would not leave APGA and he answered yes. Ojukwu repeated the question two times and this made Obi to swear with a bible he was holding that he would never leave APGA to any other party.
“Ojukwu asked this the question because he suspected that the former governor would dump APGA as soon as he (Ojukwu) was no more. It was unfortunate that he he did not keep to that promise.”
He (Obi) once Attributed leaving APGA to PDP as going to Iraq, adding that by eventually ing PDP, he is now in Iraq and he knows the consequences.
He also reiterated that it was hypocritical of the former governor to have castigated Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State for leaving APGA when he too had similar plans as soon as he left office.
Obi accused the former governor of being the reason why the party lost all the senatorial seats in 2011, particularly that of Anambra Central contested by the late Professor Dora Akunyili.
He further stated: “He did not want Akunyili to be in the senate because of his own ambition of going to the senate in 2015. If he wanted Akunyili to go to senate, why did he take her to the Head Bridge Drug market, Onitsha to campaign knowing the role Akunyili played in fighting fake drug producers in that market as the director general of NAFDAC?
“Besides, Head Bridge is not even part of Anambra Central and he took her there just to mess her up and he got what he wanted because we were stoned by the traders who were still bearing grudges against Akunyili.”
Former Governor Peter Obi has since denied being interested in contesting for the senate. But who would believe that?"
Slytiger: Arc Uche Rochas writes on X: 👇
"Take note of the dates and read my tweet with an open mind.
Where Obidients existing before 2012 but what do you observe?
Consistency in character. Yes, Peter Obi is the master of internal party crisis and factional politics.
I will tag him @peterobi as a reminder that he has not changed his ways. The only people foreign to his person are gullible Nigerians who have blindly followed him thanks to hired influencers and political jobbers.
As Governor, my kinsman and one time political leader was unable to lead his party to conduct a convention while he was in APGA. Like the same stunt before he exited from PDP, a week to the convention he resigned as BOT Chairman of APGA.
Indications: A man of flawed character who thinks that with money he may get away with everything, pay a few people to launder his image but he lacks the required skills to lead people. Obi will rather stay behind the scenes to sponsor rancor within the ranks and as often he prefers people he can pay for their loyalty; don’t be deceived with “he is stingy” not when it comes to sponsoring confusion and disputes.
Through all of Apapa and Abure’s woes, Mr. Obi completely refused to intervene, ask yourself why?
Some of you are currently on an aimless political journey with him as he moves from one mosque to another.
Northern Obidients must cash out. 😂😂😂.
We’ll be here to remind you that PO is an establishment politician who is cunny and very desperate with low ambitions."
