It's not enough to speculate. Have you tried to find out the price at the warehouse or factory?

Of cos. It's a Free Market. It's left for who wants to Buy. Inside every Hardship, there's still opportunities there. To own a Business in Nigeria presently is very very difficult especially with the hyper Inflation. Ur capital starts becoming useless if U are not capitalising on Prices increase and Scarcity..

We Nigerian are just deliberately wicked most especially those retail shops. They increase price every hours. Can you imagine trader attributing high cost of vegetables to rise in dollars. undecided

On my way from work this evening, I stopped at a shop few blocks from my building to buy noodles so I could make something real quick on getting home. I asked for the smallest pack and was told 400 naira. I asked the lady to repeat what she said cos e be like say ear dey pain me and she said again "bros na 400 o" , Omo I just weak.

Looking at the current situation in the country, Will things ever get better?
Medium superpack is now #500-700!
As much as I am tempted to blame them for this sudden hike,I cannot help but sympathize with manufacturers who are going through torrid times as a result of
Hike in FX
Epileptic electricity
Inflated transport cost due to high cost of diesel and pms
Multiplicity of taxes

These are questions you ask when a wicked government is in power...

You are asking this question cause things are rough in the country... No business man or woman will intentionally add money to their goods if they didn't buy it costly...

I'm in to Provision wholesale business...this retailers buy from us and I know how much they retail the goods they buy... Omo the profit is not even much... In a roll of Miksi, they make just #150 ... Baba.. you guys won't understand cus u are not in the system... Blame your government...

That Noodles was previously #130 before this wicked government came in.. Even the noodles you are wailing about, the profit of the retailer is not even up to #900 in a full carton..
she bought nylon to package it, her transport fare to the market and other things involved

Are you just coming to Nigeria for the first time.
If they don't blame Petrol, they will blame tax, if they don't blame tax they will blame Dollar..

Once price goes up it never comes down, if only useless Agencies like SON and Fcc are doing their jobs.

Since I learnt this, the only thing i buy from the market is veggies and fresh fish.

It can't exactly be deliberate, not when it's a competitive commodity in high demand.

Most of these sellers have unions, and they can't hike prices without a good reason.

There are factors affecting their businesses...

What is their current cost of production compared to previous years?!!

What is their tax burden currently?!!

What interests are they currently paying on loans?!!

What is their current transportation cost?!!

Etc...!!!

The association they form makes it impossible to sell at a lesser rate.

The harm Tinubu has done to this country is beyond any harms the past leaders have done. Just have it in mind that even if thing return back to the way they were before, the price of commodity will never go back to their old price again, this is what I have observed in Nigeria setting. How can you remove subsidy and float Naira without any plans, tell me, who does that as a leader, he is the worst among the bad leaders we ever had, I just pity those still ing him.

And these are the same people who are very quick in pointing fingers at the government. It's really sad.

Government started this problem. Let's lay the blame where it belongs. How can you remove subsidy and float your currency at the same time and not expect inflation to go through the roof.

Why didn't these same sellers hike the price in 2022?

We the masses are our own problem. To be very candid on this issue, the way prices of commodities swiftly skyrocket at every dollar hike is not something to be proud of.

These days, I price something from three or four sellers before I buy. Something a seller told me was 2000, I ended up buying it for 900 from another seller.

Fault should be from the Table Water companies.

And if you ask them, they will tell you that Price of Diesel for their Plants and increments of other Running costs.

I can never Blame Retailers and Manufacturers. undecided

The govt is the cause of all this,I don't know why unteil yet they have not created tax force on price control, anybody who sale beyond stated agreed price goods will be auction to the public immediately when caught, this will make a long impact

That's what happens when a trade is oversaturated. Instead of 100 mega stores selling groceries, 1000 road side stalls are, and everyone wants to make enough to cover their needs. They have to hike prices of goods they sell.
The reasonable thing will be for some of the hands doing retailing to move closer to the wholesale and production part of the whole product life cycle.

Instead of risking going into farming and start making reasonable amount of money, they form a union, regulate prices and continue with their lives. The end s suffer the cost.
the major problem with commerce in Nigeria is distributionship system
We run a terrible distributionship system
A way orgainised system was to have a food distribution company ( probably managed by oyinbo ) .will have their wholesale stores in each state .then sell. To retailers but have records of retailers in d state ,a good ledger/bookkeeping of retailer orders .the system enable govt to get good data for price control, nafdac will have an easy fight on fake product right now nafdac is fighting a lost war .
IS ONLY MUSIC,MOVIE INDUSTRY DT HAVE SOLVE THEIR DISTRIBUTION PROBLEM
