A chopper transporting Herbert Wigwe, the CEO of Access Holdings has crashed and killed him as well as about 5 others in California.

Sources said the chopper was headed to Las Vegas when it crashed near a border city between Nevada and California on Friday night. The US government confirmed all onboard dead. Six engers were onboard, however, no survivors found so far.

Herbert Wigwe, the group chief executive officer of Access Holdings Plc, was involved in a helicopter crash in the United States, on Friday, TheCable understands.

Wigwe, his wife and son were in the helicopter when it crashed in California near the Nevada border, as well as Abimbola Ogunbanjo, the group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group).

Six engers were onboard, however, no survivors found so far.

Herbert .O.Wigwe was Deputy Managing Director at Access Bank from 2002 and became its Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer in 2014. Previously, he was an Executive Director in charge of Institutional Banking at Guaranty Trust Bank and before then, a Management Consultant for Coopers & Lybrand before qualifying as a Chartered ant.

Dr. Wigwe also served as the Chairman of Access Bank (Ghana), Access Investment & Securities Limited, Central Securities and Clearing System (CSCS) and is the current Chairman of Access Bank (UK) Limited and Unified Payments Services Limited. He was a Board Member of Nigerian Mortgage Refinance Company and a member of the advisory Board for Friends Africa.

I read about the crash very early this morning, around 2am, but I had no idea these were the victims. It was just reported in ing by an obscure website online, and I had thought "another rich American bites the dust" and promptly forgot about it.
