The kid was sick, i dont think flogging to deaths is the right way to put it, life is fragile, so is the state of health, go station, you go see case, man strong enough to beat his wife but she shoved him once and that was it, hin no nak head for anything but he died, unfortunately cause of death would be approximately selected without considering underlying issues in the state of health. This is the obvious case here but as usual, emotions come before objective reasoning..... Rip to the dead.

Sigh... That teacher should be convicted and jailed for Manslaughter.

If your teaching job is frustrating and depressing your life, why not just resign and move to another profession?! You don't need to take out your life frustrations on kids.

The era of unnecessary and constant flogging ended a while ago... You guys need to keep up with the times.

There are more effective and stringent non- ways to approach discipline these days... Schools and teachers should know better.

shocked

I thought corporal punishment was banned in Nigerian schools....

Not too late though.

Many a teacher will be tempted to carry out their anger on their students in such an economic situation as ours.

Corporal punishment is not necessary in schools

I won't say 'not necessary', rather no longer effective these days.

Times have changed, Africans need to elevate their thinking with approach to discipline.

Nope... You don't know some kids fall sick after being flogged by teachers?!! Some even get scarred for life.

With all the flogging and harsh discipline, look at the average Nigerian youths... Take a good look.

Are they morally upstanding?!! Are they intellectually advanced?!! Are they sexually more responsible?!! Are they more loving and caring towards their fellow citizens?!

The approach has to change.

I'm not saying corporal punishment should go away totally... It should be kept at the barest minimum, and should even be an extremely last resort.

Kids are not animals... Treating them like one will make them act as such, especially towards others.

Some even grow up thinking violence is the best approach to correction and instilling discipline.

Thanks to former Lagos State Governor Fashola's landmark legislation that OUTLAWS the beating of children in Lagos State, this teacher who beat a student to death should now be allowed to face a fair trial whose verdict will serve warning that NOBODY is above the law.

Prosecute the murderous teacher for premeditated capital homicide, and let him spend the next 40 years working hard labor in jail as his repayment to society for this horrendous crime he has committed.

Unless they can prove that child had an underlying ailment that teacher is gone for life or for a very long time.

you see that’s why there can never be peace without justice. What’s the law saying about murder ? Let’s not go there self. How do you justify his act with petty ? You flog someone till he dies and you work free ?

Sha! Since you na gay you won’t understand some things.

Even if they prove he had an underlying ailment, that teacher is gone for life.

Matter of fact, that even makes it worse.

What i don't like is this maltreating and embarrassing of student/pupil like thief all in the name of learning, there are better ways to caution a child than this cane beating and whatso ever.
Parents send son to school, teacher and school return as a dead man..

Pain is functional.

Just give the right dose.

Ok

Corporal punishment doesn't work too

Even among people that has never been to school

If the African way works, how come we have thieves, rapists, scammers, ritualists, bandits, robbers, millitants, terrorists, runs girls etc

We have them because of the economy and lack of opportunities for able bodied men and women, go to getto and see those that were pampered, you would understand my point.

Trash talk! angry

My wife just narrated how her pupil stole his mum's money and came to school with it with the aim of spending with this friends after school.

After my wife got wind of it, he denied stealing it and came up with all forms of lies to cover up.

Eventually, my wife confirmed from his mum via phone that he actually stole the money.

He was properly flogged in school and at home.

School is an integral part of a child's training program.

Kids are like AI... They are a blank slate, learning daily, corporal punishment should stay and probably be refined, i went to a primary school in lagos, mathematical prowess and reduction of being over playful were flogged into me, went to secondary school in osun state which was probably one of the best in Nigeria where corpral punishment was still stylishly there, i saw number of students who were moved there from pampering schools and especially from USA due to their waywardness in those systems, i saw them change for the better....it might not be the right approach all the time but it is most of the time..

Pandemonium erupted at Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, as pupils of the school protested the demise of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher.

The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday when the deceased, identified as David Babadipo, was allegedly flogged by the teacher whose name was given as Oluwale.

It was gathered that the 16-year-old who had been ill for some days was rushed to a hospital after he was flogged where he was confirmed dead.

In a video seen by our correspondent on Friday, many pupils of the school could be seen running helter-skelter within the school compound and outside its premises.

A voice in the background could be heard narrating that the deceased pupil wanted to go out to purchase something when he was allegedly flogged by a teacher leading to his demise.

Commenting on the video, an social media , Mama Sassy D, wrote, “This is my vicinity. They have started rioting already. The said teacher might not survive this period.”

However, a Facebook , Esther Wusu, refuted the claim that the pupil was flogged to death, adding the name of the teacher given was that of the school’s vice principal.

“First and foremost, Mr Oluwale is a Vice Principal and he didn’t beat him for not paying attention in class because he doesn’t teach, he didn’t even beat him at all.

“That child has (sic) been sick since Tuesday and the parent didn’t take him to the hospital. It got worse yesterday afternoon after the break and they called his parent to come to pick him up,” she wrote.

Meanwhile, another Facebook , Bangose Jide, in a post wrote, “Teacher beat (sic) David Babadipo, 16-year-old to death at Araromi-Ilogbo Senior Secondary School, Oko-Afo.

“The teacher is named Mr Olawale, (a) vice principal. The case has been reported to the Morogbo Police Station at Badagry Expressway, Lagos State. David Babadipo was a native of Ipoti Ekiti State.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, had yet to confirm whether the case was reported at the station as a text message sent to enquire from him had not been responded to as of the time of filing this report.

Efforts to also get the school to comment on the matter were futile as calls made to the phone number failed to go through and a text sent to it by our correspondent was not replied to.

The bolded;

How does people sleep at night and feel relax for telling a wicked lie knowing that God doesn't sleep and He shall judgement on every person according to his or her life .

I felt bad reading the above bolded of the said fb distorting true information as regard to the innocent child who untimely lost his life to an overzealous vice principal penchant for maltreatment of students in the school.

I was around that area (Oko Afo) and the incident happened on Wednesday whilst the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he later died as the new broke following day.

I saw students rioting, protesting against the vice principal a situation which put him in serious fear of his life.

I interview few of the students and one young SS1 teacher of the school which s were of the same narrative. We learnt that the said vice principal have a penchant for beating students anyhow, an act he had turned notorious for causing students fear and panic whenever he is sited.

According to the s, the deceased student was said to be sick and was developing headache when he opted to get a paracetamol before the VP caught him but refused to listen to his explanation when he gave him slap leading to the deceased collapsed and rushed to the hospital before he was unfortunately announced dead yesterday causing riots and disruption of the school.

So whoever is this Facebook lady dishing out fake information to mislead the general public, you need to fear God and also realize that money can't buy health when God judgment comes.

Fear God!!!

Nope,
Corporal punishment is necessary in schools but there should be a limit.
You can't beat a kid like a murderer, flogging should be at the buttocks only and it shouldn't exceed 10 strokes.
If the kid is too stubborn just expel them
