Rail: Lagos commences feasibility studies for Green, Purple lines with private sector — LAMATA boss

Lagos State government has commenced talks with private investors for feasibility studies the construction of the Green and Purple rail lines systems to be completed in three and half years.

The Green Line is a 68 kilometers rail designed to run through Marina, Victoria Island, Lekki Phase 1, Ajah, Lekki 2, Ogombo, Elepetu, Eluju, Lekki Airport and Lekki Free Trade Zone.

It is projected to carry over 500,000 engers per day for a start, rising to over a million in 2031.

Similarly, the Pueple line is a 60 km rail, designed to run through Redemption Camp, Mowe, Long Bridge, Isheri, Toll Gate, Omole, Ogba, Agege, Iyana Ipaja, Isheri Osun, Igando, Iba, Estate, LASU, Okokomaiko and Ojo.

Managing Director, MD, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority, LAMATA, Engr. Abimbola Akinajo, who disclosed this at a briefing in Lagos yesterday, said the project was part of activities marking the 20 years of LAMATA’s operations.

LAMATA has outlined the routes and the projected daily capacity for the six rail systems designed to ease the transportation challenges in Lagos State.

According to Akinajo, the six rail systems that are differentiated by colours, namely Green line, Purple line, Yellow line, Orange line, Blue line and Red line.

He said: “The Green and Purple are the two rail lines we intend to tackle next after the Blue Rail-Line.

The people up there just like violence lol. I said it on the other thread that the best thing for lagos to do is to start multiple rail at the same time. Then when the present IGR doubles from recent investment in the state those project can now be well funded to speed up delivery time.
I'm sure metro rail is not a big issue nomore, what we'll be needing in future is subway

I am not going to live in Anambra again...

I hope the one going to mowe would not be funded by lagos alone because there is no enough money for that. Ogun state financial contribution will be needed to fund that project just like the Ijebu to Epe road was funded

In 10yrs, developers will say when they came, Lagos was a bush path, they brought in tractors, cleared all the bush paths and laid the train tracks. They came and gave Ragos the trains, we are the heroes.

This is a welcome development, even achieved it will spread developments to other parts of Lagos rapidly.

It's not about cost, sometimes it's cheaper, sometimes it's more expensive depends on distance and other factors.

The main point is that there are usually no traffic queues on railways hence, journeys will be faster and arrival time will be fixed.
So a city like Lagos with so much traffic queues, will benefit massively. It will reduce pressure on the road.
