Hi Guys,

Getting an expired Nigerian port renewed is a hassle especially in Nigerian Embassies in foreign countries. This has left too many Nigerians in Diaspora with expired Nigerian port.

I'm aware of an an existing law that prohibits the prevention of a Nigerian citizen from entry simply because he/she has an expired port. Once the airline drops you in Nigeria, nobody, i repeat, no nobody can send you back as long as you are a Nigerian. Infact I know a lot of Nigerians with dual citizenship who has traveled to Nigeria and back with their valid Foreign port and an expired Nigerian port.

However I'm told that certain airlines might have their own policy regarding the use of expired port. This thread is for people who have traveled with expired Nigerian port to share their experience.

Please tell us the airline you used and the country you flew in from. Tell us which airport you used and the difficulties or ease you experienced throughout the flight.

This information might be invaluable to people who intend traveling back to Nigeria during this yuletide season.

Abike Dabiri has several times announced that FG of Nigeria approved all Nigerians be allowed to fly into the country with expired travel international ports. All airlines should have that advisory notice since

Yeah she has. However she did say it's subject to the airlines to accept or reject. So I just want to know people's personal experiences which each airline.

As long as you're traveling back to Nigeria with the expired port..
No one can turn u back...
But before u book and board; make sure to confirm from the airline you're boarding concerning their policies on expired Nigerian ports for Nigerian travellers coming into Nigeria

You will enter no issues, so long as you have that port, you will be allowed to fly.

You just can't leave Nigeria with an expired port UNLESS you have another port like US

I flew with an expired Nigerian port into Nigeria but I obtained an electronic travel certificate eTC from the Nigerian high commission in Canada for about $cad100. I used Ethiopian airline. But I had to renew my Nigeria port before I could travel back.

You all saying go to your embassy. Do you all know the hassle in getting appointment at Nigeria embassy in abroad?

Some times the only available appointment is in 3_6 months time.

Or you have to travel to a nearby country especially in Europe.

And the cost is outrageous.

Application fee.. 101$
Express (same day collection) ... 150 Euro

Not to talk about hotel bill, feeding, train tickets or flight.. depending from where you coming from.

Renewal of Nigeria port abroad is a war.

I always advice those coming to Nigeria for holiday to always renew their port in naija. Go for the 10 years validity.. it's cost about 120 thousand naira and it would save you all those stress 😬
