Proof Some Nigerian Embassies Issue ports On The Same Day (18615 Views)

I saw a thread on the front page a few days ago, titled "Can This Happen At Nigerian Embassies?" The thread had a pic depicting a lady's social media post about getting an emergency US port in a few hours, at a US embassy. In that thread, the overarching sentiment of posts was - that could never happen at a Nigerian embassy. Well, the definitive answer is.. YES, it can and it does. I know this, because I did it only 3 months ago. A standard Nigerian port renewal, not an emergency port like thaty lady got. And no, I'm not talking about any "back doors" or "greasing" any palms. I responded in that thread, but felt it's also relevant to emphasize it in detail in a new thread. Nigeria is incredibly incompetent at most things, but once in a while, something works. As they say, even a broken clock is correct once a day. Just for context, I travel with a US port, but use my Nigerian port when going to Nigeria, or some African countries. I've renewed my US and Nigerian ports in multiple countries (as I travel quite a bit), so I've had some experience with both. From the screenshot in that previous thread, it's clear the lady was NOT in the US when she got the emergency port. In the US, we don't go to an "embassy" to get a port, as "US embassies" don't exist in... the US. The emergency port is no big deal and comes with only 5 or 6 pages, so you still need a standard renewal when you get home. Also, the current estimated time for a US port within the US is 11 weeks, and the "rush" service is 5-7 weeks. There has been a lot of port backlog, similar to the situation in Nigeria, but it's a bit better now, I believe. I renewed my US port in Argentina last year, and got it in about 2 weeks. Anyway, I went to Brasilia, Brazil 3 months ago, to renew my Nigerian port, as that was the only port-issuing location in the region I was traveling. I first visited the Nigerian embassy in Argentina and was told they don't produce ports, but I could get it in Brazil on the same day. I was very skeptical of that information, because... Nigeria. As it turns out, the entire process from getting there, to receiving my new port was a few hours. It wasn't some emergency port either. It was a standard port. I paid online > booked an appointment > went there. Paid an istrative fee > did the capturing and walked out with my new port all in 2-3 hours. I was literally the only person being attended to at the Nigerian embassy, though. It was empty, except about 4-6 embassy staff I saw. The guy who attended to me was also very polite and professional (something lacking in most Nigerian operations). So, not only can you get your international port at a Nigerian embassy in a few hours, it's a permanent port - not an emergency one. Shout out to the Nigerian embassy in Brasilia, Brazil. The embassy in New York is a different story. Took me many months and headaches to renew there, in 2017. The attached image is from a video I took outside the Nigerian embassy, in Brazil. 52 Likes 8 Shares |

.proof ? Even common driver license they will frustrate you till you give up. Go to thier office and see abandoned driver license. Probably the people have given up after going to their office countless of time. Even that of military men and police officers driver license are abandoned in their office. But I refuse to give up. Keep going there until i finally got mine with a bribe. Shockingly they have produced it but hiding it. Just to suffer common man. 3 Likes |

ramalot:True that... An insightful thread. Obviously the Nigerian Embassy in Brasilia didn't have much crowd waiting to get new ports, so issuing new travel ports was faster. The New York embassy has a deluge of Diapora Nigerians to deal with in the U.S. or North America, so, the waiting time would be a little longer. In any event, these man-made inefficiencies can be removed to enhance travel ports collections. There's NO rocket science here. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Good review! So there's some glimmer of hope that the country could get better some day. Probably like 500 years from now! 1 Like |

I think the increase in applications due to the economic situation in the past few years, contribute greatly to the problem of port backlogs.

If they issue you the same day, you have to pay through your nose. It's very exorbitant. They call it Express at port office. The Young officers at the Gate would cajole you and give you 3 different prices. The cheapest among them would take a Year before you receive their call for Collection. Immigration office and Police, I don't know who is worse. |

Unless it changed, that was never the case at this particular embassy being discussed here. It was the same standard fee, not a Brazilian centavo more not a Brazilian centavo less. kokakola: 5 Likes |
