UMUAHIA-The Indigenous People of Aba Ngwa, comprising 24 communities in Aba North and Aba South council areas of Abia State, have vowed to resist Governor Alex Otti’s proposed appointment of a non-indigene as the mayor of Aba.

The Governor had during an event at the Aba Sports Club, disclosed that he will appoint a billionaire like Ide John Udeagbala as the mayor of Aba among others.

Otti stated that all residents of Aba are one and the same people, stressing that every resident is an indigene of the city.

Reacting to the Governor’s statement, the Indigenous People of Aba under the umbrella body of the Aba Ngwa People’s Forum, at the end of their meeting in Aba, described the Governor’s statement as unacceptable and provoking and warned that Aba is not ‘a no man’s land’.

It warned that it will never accept a non-indigene of Aba as the mayor or transition committee chairman of the two council areas in Aba, stressing that such appointments do not occur in other metropolitan cities like Port Harcourt, Awka and Owerri.

They urged the Governor to appoint non-indigenes as mayors and transition committee chairmen in Umuahia, Bende, Ohafia and other areas of the state, if he must appoint a non-indigene to preside over Aba.

The Forum also alleged that the Governor had excluded the people of Aba South from appointments to the State Executive Council and market leadership positions in the state.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and signed by Mr. Ogechukwu Ogbonna, Engr. Greg Obinna and Mr. Chintua Nwagba, the Forum urged Otti to give the indigenous their deserved respect.

The forum noted that the indigenous people of Aba have been living in peace with the non-indigenous neighbours and won’t accept any inciting comments which could cause acrimony between the indigenous people and other residents of the city.

This is even worse than the one that they did Bianca Ojukwu

So how is a Yoruba going to be Mayor of Aba if you cannot accept ordinary Anambra Accross the Street from you?

I'm from Abia state and I want him to be the mayor of Aba, I am fully in of it. This is PDP politics. You don't understand Abia politics, don't delve into it

I think u read the wrong news. It was the indigenous people of Aba, not PDP.

They said the decision is 'provocative' because Aba is not 'no man's land'.

They consider it provocative. But call yorubas tribalist when they respond to the provocation of COMPLETE STRANGERS calling parts of yorubaland no man's land.

O pari.

Quit the hypocrisy, lies, hatred , bigotry and pretences and let's practise law of reciprocity by collaboration. If he wants to be the Mayor of Aba, let his own people have an Aba indigene as Mayor too!

This is why we need to collaborate by reciprocity. If you exchange human, material and opportunity resources, you will value the other person's resources left in your care as advocated here LAGOS GUBER & PLIGHT OF IGBO: Law Of Reciprocity Is The Solution

Typical ibo man's mentality as a smart man. One Nigeria according to them is to be allowed to destroy other regions while preserving theirs.
If na lagos now, that ugly Oby Ezekwesili and foolish grandpa Charlie boy would have been tweeting of how ibo people are hated.

What kind of power will the mayor even have over aba? The anambra business man has a very rich cv to attract development to Aba deplomacy may resolve the misunderstanding and mistrust amongst the locals.

But , before you leap above your height. All non-indegenes elected as Chairman of Aba North or Aba South served meritoriously because it was an outcome of an election and not a selection.

Aba has elected more non-indigenes as LGA Chairman than any city in Nigeria. Ask questions or browse the net before spewing rubbish.

Selection/Appointment is not an outcome of a democratic process. Btw, I thought there were elected LGA Chairpersons who are yet to serve out their term.?

Complete idiots! The useless indigenes that have been your LG chairmen since 1999, of what benefit has their being ‘son of the soil’ been to Aba!? Under the past system riddled with corruption, nepotism and cronyism, the once great Aba became a laughing stock….an embarrassment to Ndigbo, and a byword for urban decay! Now Governor Otti wants to change things a bit from how they were done in the past, idiots are emerging to claim all sorts of redundant and antiquated ‘indigene’ rights!

I bet that useless Chikanmayo, or whatever TF he calls himself, has a hand in this! Governor Otti should go over the heads of these thieving Abia/Aba career politicians and appeal directly to Ndi-Aba to sell this his novel idea!

The Mayor was elected. Secondly, 80% of elected Chairmen of Aba LGAs have been non-indigenes.

Smh. See spin.

The Pakistani reciprocated by giving favours to the British nationals too. In fact, 7 of such were in the cabinet of recently outsted Pakistani PM, Imran Khan who himself was British-trained and based.

Let's quit these lies and hypocrisy, reciprocity is a natural law.

Any relationship that's not based on reciprocity will die disastrously.

This is a stark reality that the demand for reciprocity by the Yoruba from the Igbo is a legitimate and just demand. The Igbo do same and demand same from their fellow Igbo who do not come from their own state or LGAs so quit the hypocrisy.

You can not keep holding all your own and keep sharing that of others, it is just a matter of time that the relationship will be ruined when the Yoruba withhold their own resources and insist that you release your own before the Yoruba release theirs.

So you want to sit there and tell us we conduct credible elections under a fair process in Nigeria!?

I’ve not checked, but i’d wager all your so called ‘elected’ LG chairmen of Aba since 1999 have all been PDP!

This is why children like you should stay away from local politics. The majority of those useless chairmen according to you have been non-indigenes.

The first elected chairman of Aba North was Iboko O. Iboko, he wasn't an Ngwa man. , he was the one that rebranded Abia State Polytechnic Aba to Aba North (trying to separate and divide a United clan) which caused an uproar before he removed the "North" he added.
