Al-Nassr striker Cristiano Ronaldo has been sentenced to 99 lashes for hugging an unmarried woman while taking a photo with her in Iran. In that country a man is not allowed to touch a woman and will receive that punishment if he travels to Iran again.

Cristiano Ronaldo will be in trouble if he sets foot on Iranian soil again. The Portuguese striker has been sentenced to 99 lashes for adultery.

Al-Nassr faced Persepolis in the Asian Champions League and Luis Castro's squad travelled to Iran for the match. Ronaldo met an Iranian painter who is a big fan of the Portuguese footballer.

Fatima Hamami gave him several portraits she had made of him and he took a photo with her and gave her a hug to thank her. The painter uses a wheelchair, so he bent down, put his right hand on her arm and smiled for the photo.

According to Iranian outlet 'Shark Emroz', several Iranian lawyers sued Ronaldo for adultery when the video went viral on social media. A man is not allowed to touch an unmarried woman in Iran.

The same media outlet reports that a court sentenced him to 99 lashes the next time he sets foot on Iranian soil.

MEDIA in Iran are reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo could face 99 lashes for adultery next time he steps foot in the country.

The reports, from Mundo Deportivo, come after the former Manchester United forward received a hero's welcome in the country when Al Nassr played Persepolis in the group stage of the Asian Champions League.

As part of Ronaldo's welcome to the country he was showered with gifts from adoring fans which included customised Persian rugs and paintings of the footballer.

And it is the paintings he received from artist Fatima Hamimi that has landed him in trouble with some of the country's zealous legislators.

Hamimi, an artist based in Persepolis, is 85 per cent paralysed and uses a wheelchair for mobility.

She does not have the use of her hands and instead uses her feet to paint her artwork.

It’s a pity. I do not want to believe that this is not an effort to make him an escape goat, in order to destabilize Saudi Arabia’s effort towards opening up the region through sports. It could also be an attention seeking mind game.
