Barrywilly:Wrong assumption. If you don't use your data, it won't go anywhere. If I'm on 4G and you're on 5G and we a data of 5mb from same website, we will ended up used same amount of data. |

phr0nesis: Screen display has nothing to do with rate of data consumption sir. Internet connectivity speed has nothing to do with it too! The major data consumers na apps that always update in the background Watching Videos on Tiktok, Youtube, Facebook, etc at the highest quality of HD Infact watching videos whether high or low quality/resolution Streaming songs at the highest kps So to reduce this for android go to settings and open "apps" For each app switch off "background" data . Don't do this for apps like whatsapp, Facebook, messenger, and other apps that use GCM to push instant mesages. Also enter settings and type "data usage" click on data usage and switch off internet access to apps that don't need internet at all to function. Apps like your music, file manager, gallery, etc will still function if you restrict their access to internet. Samsung one ui consumes data so much cos it's always updating stuff behind the scenes without your knowledge or consent. Once you apply the above directives, you'll notice a significant reduction in data consumption for your device. |

Basicend: Chibuzoripob: Not entirely true sir, low end phones or high end phone data consumption is not really all about screen type sir. There are other factors that are the real data consumers sir. I use high end ie samsung galaxy note 10 and a low end redmi 9a and know the areas I need to touch to keep data consumption low on both devices. Data saver should be on by default on apps like tiktok, facebook, youtube, instagram, etc. Auto play and loading of videos should also be off on the earlier mentioned apps too. Ie videos should only load only when you click on them. Remove discovery or news on apps like chrome, kiwi browser, opera/mini browser. Have one news app like opera news for your news. Block "weather" apps too cos they are always updating in the background. Goalnaldo: Haba, so you don't see that ads are chopping your data big man? Your screenshot says it all based on the jiji ads on your notification bar! Phone brands does not determine your data consumption. Every phone even itel consumes data a lot but the likes of those with amoled screen and screen size makes it more milking. On android, check your data usage. Follow up on each app utilizing the data, you can restrict or off data consumption for each of the apps you do not need mb for. I don't on data saver but restrict apps not to use data. On iPhone, go to settings and see your data consumption... same you have to off iCloud back up storage for videos and things you do not want based on preferences, also restricting each app data would save more more mb at the end of the day. In all, check apps that consumes data a lot ... if it's your favourite... you'd have to deal with it or control your excesses on such app. |

Fizalis:* You just stated it that watching videos with higher resolution consumes more data. Why then would a phone with bigger and sharper screen display not consume data when accessing the internet. * There are websites you visit where video ads are while you are surfing the internet. Those ads consume data. With a slower connectivity, it takes time for those ads to load, let alone play. When you are on YouTube, WhatsApp (viewing status), tiktok, and you play a video but decide against watching it, with a faster connectivity, that video has probably already loaded the entire video, thereby consuming the required data whether you watched it or not. |

4G network consumes more data than 3G network. 5G network consumes more data than 4G and 3G network. My own two cents. what do I know? π

iPhone consumes according to your choice but in android you are left with no choice.

It actually depends on the internet network you are using either 3gb, 4gb or 5gb network π€·ββοΈ. The more faster it responds, speaks on its network and how available is the network as well in the area you find yourself |
