Villages in Nigeria are synonymous with hardship of lack of power, water, communication, transportation, and more. It isnt a big deal elsewhere but in Nigeria, it is such a big deal because of backwardness of the villages in Nigeria and Africa generally. Though technology has overcome many of those challenges. Boreholes for water, satellites for communication, renewable power among others, our corrupt and wasteful system means villages are not attractive in any sense. 4 Likes |

FarmsFarmer:Village is relative, some villages don't have banks, Internet, safe drinkable water , light, good schools etc. Health is wealth |

Nice but some you won't thrive in the village with some professions. As a media arts practitioner, networking in the big city with less talent and training may still give you higher leverage and exposure than your counterpart in the village who is way more talented but refuses to come to where the action is happening and connects are yielding value almost every minute. Your talent will find you out though. Your light could shine out from under any rock in any corner but whether you shine for long will determine whether you decide to leave your village comfort zone to go where the big boys play the big league or you hang back in your hideout there. Don't forget, the biggest deals, the biggest shows etc are hardly ever signed or staged in the village. 1 Like |

FarmsFarmer:City is associated with good amenities and so big boys or people with big boy mentality prefer it. Elsewhere city cities are built around commerce and industries. Our cities are more of ancient settlement whose economic identity has been eroded. Most costal cities were fish market hubs. Desert/arid cities mostly grains. In between you have other cashcrops and cattle's. The idea of productivity that was suppose to sustain cities have been relegated in favour of fast oil money. 4 Likes |

phemmyfour: Hmm, true. But some now have these facilities, though not comparable to city standard. Depends on the area. 2 Likes |

U have nothing 4 anybody U dont just ask someone to relocate Even if the person dey suffer It is even much more dangerous 4 such person to try that. A malnourished homeless person cant afford a successful relocation. |

Dey no dey tell deaf say market is over, funny enough some will even come back to the village after retirement and expect family in the village to take care of them.

This topic is fory younger sister and husband. The husband has refused to relocate to the east, possibly to obigbo wherey brothers are living or to Owerri that's more closer to their own home town. I have talked and talked but to no avail. The worst is that my elder brother and I are the ones paying for their house rent in Lagos and some of other things their kids needs. My sister will only be crying to me with over 10mins long voice message. The bills I pay here in abroad are so much that my earnings hardly cover them but I will still squeeze out something for them. But will listen to wise counsel and move back to the east? I don't know yet.

RepoMan007: A lot of opportunities in the village, but most people don't know. The Nigerian home video films they watch has misled most Nigerians to think that you must move to the city before you can make it. But city is actually not for everyone. 6 Likes |
