The Nigeria Labour Congres (NLC) has declared a two-day warning strike, beginning on Tuesday, September 5, in protest against the Federal Government for failing to address the challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidy.

The NLC President, Joe Ajaero, made the declaration on Friday during a press conference at the Labour House in Abuja, while speaking on resolutions by the NLC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting the previous day.

The labour union is accusing the Federal Government of abandoning the negotiations and failing to implement some of the resolutions from previous meetings with the government.

On August 2, organised labour protested what it described as the anti-people policies of the istration of President Bola Tinubu.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and their unions demonstrated in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and several states, including Lagos, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Kano, Rivers, Zamfara, Katsina, Cross River, Ebonyi, Enugu, Kwara, Ogun, Imo, Ondo, and Edo.

The protest followed a seven-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government demanding “the immediate reversal of all anti-poor policies of the federal government including the recent hike in PMS ( Motor Spirit) price, increase in public school fees, the release of the eight months withheld salary of university lecturers and workers”.

The union also demanded an upward review of the minimum wage from N30,000 to N200,000, saying that since the President’s “subsidy is gone” inauguration speech of May 29, 2023, the peace of mind of Nigerians has gone.

Several meetings between the Presidency and the unions on palliatives for Nigerians suffering hardship in the wake of the petrol subsidy removal proved abortive.

The next protest in this country may consume all the leaders because the power of the people is greater than the people in power

As much as this country is ripe for a revolution, it’s never gonna come through NLC. The NLC since the departure of Oshiomole has shown a very large disconnect with the people. It has proven its self not to be trusted by the people. It has shown itself a very corrupt body in cohorts with the ruling class that continues to ground Nigerians and Nigeria’s economy with their often ill thought out and sometimes outrightly callous policies.

I don’t give a fvck about the NLC. They don’t speak for Nigerians.

This is not the best of times to be the NLC President. The prestige of the position is slowly fading away.

Now it's too late to even remove fuel subsidies. Anybody who advises Tinubu to remove subsidies and hike the dollar rate at the same time is an evil adviser.
The policy is purely anti-people and no amount of palliative will cushion the effects we're currently witnessing.
The policy successfully eradicated a lot of middle class within the space of two months. Someone living large on a 180k/month salary is now being turned into someone managing life.
Jobless people like me surviving by marketing shoes for importers don't have much to even eat because na person wey chop dey buy shoe lipsrsealed lipsrsealed

Abeg NLC should keep quiet. We are not interested in the strike.
What's the essence of the strike when their plan is to cashout?
Once the Ogas at the top drop brown envelopes they will immediately call it off.
It's the poor man on the street that suffers at the end of the day
