This news adds nothing to the plight of the common man! It is common sense that the countries with the largest populations in Africa should have the biggest economies so we are doing nothing special to have the biggest economy which is just a measure of GDP ONLY. However, what most people don't know is that the GDP is not a real measure of how a country is doing. The real measure is GDP per capita, unemployment numbers, interest rates, balance of trade, GINI index and the current of the country(excess crude in our own case). All of these indices are very much on the negative for Nigeria.

According to the report Nigerian economy grew by 8% last year. How can an economy grow by 8% and the citizens did not feel the impact.

It's very possible. That is econ growth. A situation whereby certain economic indices like business transactions within a year look positive but doesn't translate to better living standards compared to economic development which is a combination of growth and better living standards
