Thousands cheer on 'godfather of Nigerian politics' Mayeni Jones BBC News, Lagos Nigerian presidential candidate Bola Tinubu arrives by bus at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos on 21 February 2023 AFPCopyright: AFP Presidential candidate Bola Tinubu arrived by bus at Teslim Balogun Stadium in LagosImage caption: Presidential candidate Bola Tinubu arrived by bus at Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos The presidential candidate for Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has held his final rally in Lagos. Thousands gathered at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, where the veteran politician - one of the three main candidates in Saturday’s poll - was ed by outgoing President Muhammadu Buhari and other party dignitaries. Mr Tinubu very much views Lagos as his stronghold: he was governor here from 1999 to 2007, and in many ways helped shape Nigeria’s economic hub into its current form. Often referred to as “the godfather of Nigerian politics”, he has claimed he was instrumental in securing President Buhari’s two victories at the ballot box. The Lagos governors who have succeeded him have been his proteges. His critics say a campaign phrase he has used “emi lo kan”, which means “it’s my turn” in Yoruba, represents the worse aspects of Nigerian politics. But many people in Lagos believe Mr Tinubu is a savvy political operator who could help turn the country’s fortunes around. The Nigerian economy has taken a nosedive since the election of President Buhari eight years ago, inflation is at more than 20% and unemployment has quadrupled. Mr Tinubu, who is one of Nigeria’s richest politicians, says he made his wealth through sound investments and can improve the country’s economic fortunes. His main rival is Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party. But many young Lagosians, galvanised by anti-police brutality protests in 2020, known as EndSars, say they prefer to back Peter Obi of the lesser-known Labour Party. The way young Nigerians vote in this elections could be decisive: a record 10 million new people have ed to vote, 40% of whom are under 35. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-africa-64022932?ns_mchannel=social&ns_source=twitter&ns_campaign=bbc_live&ns_linkname=63f4f8fc86b6c015d31e66ed%26Thousands%20cheer%20on%20%27godfather%20of%20Nigerian%20politics%27%262023-02-21T17%3A24%3A51.866Z&ns_fee=0&pinned_post_locator=urn:asset:eeab11df-31a1-4125-a50c-16242ba5461c&pinned_post_asset_id=63f4f8fc86b6c015d31e66ed&pinned_post_type=share 4 Likes |

This goes to show that even the "international community" strongly believe that Asiwaju Jagaban Tinubu is the most qualified of all the presidential candidates! Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu would win the Presidential election landslide by The LORD'S Special Grace! LP/obifooolish ti lule PDP ti lule Renewed Hope 2023! BATified 2023! ADDENDUM: This News source is the only international media source that has "objectively described" Asiwaju as the only candidate that can turn the "fortune" of Nigeria "positively around"! All other international media outfits have been "spewing trash"! 22 Likes 5 Shares |

Did you ever read the article? If you did read, I pity the parents that paid the school fees for you. I would say based on your comment here after reading the BBC write-up as total waste of scarce resources that would have been deployed for better use. BBC never said that Tinubu would win but was only reporting Tinubu ers impression of him and not in any way saying categorically that Alhaji Tinubu would win. BlessedOne01: 4 Likes |

BBC my foot! Same way they projected that the current Kenyan President didn’t have a chance. UK is actually part of the problems we have in Nigeria. They’re waiting for the 84 years old man to win and then spend 1 year in Uk hospital on medical treatment worth billions of dollars. Nonsense.
