hustla: I'm not actually an auditor although I have done IT audit related activities and certifications. I'm into cybersecurity. But the company wants me for IT security audit and they stated it offers sponsorship |
dupyshoo: 5:30pm On Nov 02, 2022 |
IT security audit is boring but you might take it for sponsorship purpose and continue looking for company to sponsor you for cybersecurity role. They should however pay up to 50k for it to make sense. boneruns: 1 Like |

Chreze: No Nursery feeding is not Public Funds. Edited to add that I mean the ‘snack they give here’. At nursery levels you will have to pack a lunch for your child. But they give them endless fruit and drinks that is not counted as a meal. The rule is: if you need to ‘apply’ specially for the benefit it prolly counts as public funds. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Nursery Hack: If you have ONLY nursery aged children and so can afford to place them in any Nursery school essentially without worrying too much about pickup for older kids; consider putting them in a private nursery that partners with your local council. For instance, if your council or town has a private/independent primary school, it’s nursery unit could be partners with your council hence your child can still attend free. You’ll have to ask or check their website to see. Trust me, everything is better on that side. They eat good. Hot meals + desert. Worth checking. X. 10 Likes 6 Shares |

Mamatukwas: To confirm and add to this info. This is very true. When our son was attending a private nursery before the free 1140hrs, he use to come home neat with maybe paint stains on his clothes and they took care of his wet clothes as we dropped extra for him. The private nursery had dry cleaning and cleaners to sort their stuffs too. They also had better lunch meals with alternate options for kids who refuse the serving for that day. But since he started the nursery here, they just give him his accident clothes like that. No adjustment or even trying to wash or clean them. Tho the nursery has clothes to change him to if he runs out of his, but no washing for you, they just tie it in a nylon. Also no multiple option for meal especially if the child refuses the served lunch. So yeah that would be a good option. The reason why we moved him from the private (because our council had it as an option) was because it was a bit far and required us connecting buses. While the new nursery is just adjacent our house. 2 Likes |

boneruns: What location is this? Is it one of the BIG4 firms? the pay is very low TBH. if you lemme know your location I can help you confirm what your pay band should be most likely. |
Hwy9: 7:26am On Nov 03, 2022 |
boneruns: From my quick research, If the location is London, you should be negotiating for £53k to £56k. For other locations, £50k to £53k should be ok. IT audit is specialised audit and is usually reflected in the pay. I believe the prospective employer have their pay structure but since they have given you the go ahead to research, these figures are ok. I know that feeling of working somewhere and you find out you are underpaid compared to your peers! 3 Likes |

rayralph:Nope, he should negotiate first and get their best offer before settling. Always push the bar, that is one thing I learnt years back. If you don't ask, you don't get. If he gets in like that and his peers are paid more, it will be demoralising. At worst, they will say it is firm and he will accept it like that. 1 Like |

Anyone in (or know about) Brighton and Hove area? I'm considering taking an offer there. Which are the best commuter towns close the area? I feel like Brighton is touristy and being by the sea will likely be crowded and expensive... It's a hybrid role so not particularly worried about distance, but looking at keeping it under 30 to 45mins drive. I'm looking for calm residential areas with good schools and good links for transportation, leisure and shopping, etc. (And fair rental prices ![]() ![]() Any insight or tips will be appreciated ![]() 1 Like 1 Share |

A number of factors come into play. The overriding nonetheless is 'what do you want', what do you want to achieve as a person/family? Those factors include - location linked with pay. consider what dupyshoo, rayralph, Hwy9 have hinted. - -- ... But I intend to email them stating 40-45k ... I'll say in the circumstances, you might want to indicate £40-50k - -- even at that, salary is ultimately nothing but a 'figure' that gets you by the month! It is relative, subjective. The reality differs from person to person. - -- ... 7 years of experience in cybersecurity ... | For negotiation, your 7yrs might not really counts. It'll revolve around the role itself. In this instance, Asst Mgr. - -- Inbtw, it is not uncommon to see WIDE salary gap/discrepancy within the BIG 4 and BIG 6. In fact, in most 'audit' firms. I've seen that often. To compound, the gap gets wider, more than 'mind the gap', when salary increment creeps in year-on-year based on (the so-called) performance appraisal scores! - Salary structure - -- what are they offering. - -- Typically basic. - --If it's total package, check what it constitutes - -- Any private care: BUPA - -- Pension contribution % - -- Bonus - -- ... NB: At times, some of the 'non-financial' weighs more as you aged! - Role: I note you've already stated its IT security audit - -- Will you only be ing Audit cycles. In that case, will your role be constrained to those ITGC stuff. - -- Will you end up in narrowed sector or tech spectrum: SAP only, Oracle only or wide spectrum of technology solutions (subject to clients!). To be honest, most times, this comes to light only after months on the job. Lemme quickly chip in here that in most audit firm, to get to=hose '4' & '5' performance review scores, you must be an entrepreneur within the whole Audit firm, sourcing for 'work' to be done, collaborating and 'innovating'. Unfortunately, most get this done through 'smoke' breaks, lunch out, drinks out with an 'eye-service' attitude!! Eish, don't get me started. - -- What is the roap to becoming a Manager (where you actually get to review collated (audit) work papers, prepare reports, be part of getting mgt response to audit findings, and be part of scoping audit engagements). PS: some might throw an Asst Mgt into a hybrid mode of senior consultant/associate and Mgr. Lastly, I know I commented on cybersecurity earlier in the year. I'll try looking for the post. A lot of 'new-breed' gloss over cybersecurity. unfortunately, the press ain't helping, and neither are mgt/directors assisting as they pick up buzzwords in-flight. NIST, ISO ain't assisting much as well, although we're starting to see ISO getting 'cybersecurity' out there in their 'new' standards. I guess ENISA leads the pack in interrogating 'cybersecurity'. With all of these, HR get's into the loop with improperly or unstructured job roles, and recruiters run amok sourcing fit-for-use candidates; at least HR and recruiter can at least get fit-for-purpose candidates!. Thanks for the comments here. It should assist people in starting to understand what is it to say cybersecurity. Indeed, it is, or it has become, an umbrella word for all things security that bothers on 'cyber' or 'digital'L Computer security, IT security, IT/IS systems security, IoT/industrial security, good 'ol information security. We can discuss all of these, possibly in the technology thread. Let's come back to life in the UK ![]() ![]() ![]() dupyshoo: boneruns: hustla: boneruns: 2 Likes |

rayralph: Thank you boss. They have this morning given her an option of yet another transfer to either Durham or Sunderland. This will be the fourth transfer under one year with them, we never asked for any, and this has been affecting my children and myself work wise, We keep moving because the pay back clause in the Job Contract. Now that this is not our fault, she is considering switching employer but I do not wish to pay them anything because this whole move here and there are no fault of hers, its affecting her mental health, the kids mental health and my mental health as well. What is the best way to approach this situation so that we will not pay them back anything. Truth is my tired is tired of this their inconsistencies. |
