The US Navy is set to launch the world's most advanced aircraft carrier into the Atlantic ocean today - it will house 9000 troops from nine countries as well as 20 ships and 60 aircraft.

Today the US is deploying one of the world's most advanced aircraft carriers to the Atlantic, complete with nuclear reactors and fighter jets.

The USS Gerald R Ford is sailing from Virginia, USA to the Atlantic Ocean and carrying a NATO strike group.

It's unclear whether the launch is linked to the conflict in Ukraine but as the carrier cost the US more than $13billion (£11bn), the country's navy is obviously keen to show it off.

The ship is powered by two nuclear reactors and can carry more than 70 aircraft, including deadly helicopters and jets.

The Atlantic deployment is due to carry 9000 personnel from nine NATO countries, including the US, Canada, Finland, Denmark, , , the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden.

Vice iral Dan Dwyer, Commander of the US 2nd Fleet, said: "The Atlantic is an area of strategic interest. Our primary goal is to contribute to a peaceful, stable, and conflict-free Atlantic region through the combined naval power of our Allies and partners.

"The deployment of USS Gerald R Ford's carrier strike group is the natural progression of our renewed commitment to the Atlantic."

U.S has been struggling with its own hypersonic program. They've recorded little succcess unlike China and Russia that have made giant leap in this area. so I don't know how they can build a system that can counter it.

I don't think that man know what hypersonic missiles are, we are talking about a weapon that are extremely fast and could fly as fast as 6,000 kilometers per hour, and can evade interception. The US can not boast of a successful test of hypersonic missile not to talk of having an interceptor.

It is unlikely that a single missile can sink the ship. Although a missile can knock it out of action.

A torpedo with massive warheads will likely sink it but not a missile (hypersonic or not).

Those submarines and frigates are useless when it has to do with hypersonic missiles, that ship is also much vulnerable to hypersonic missile as long as it doesn't have anti missile interceptor.

A single Hypersonic missile can and would destroy that aircraft carrier.
