Emergency responders have commenced rescue operations

Six people have reportedly been trapped under the rubble of a seven-storey building that collapsed close to Sand Field Bus Stop, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.

The building, located on Oba Idowu Oniru Street, was said to be under construction before it came down early Sunday morning.

Emergency responders had been deployed to the scene of the incident as efforts were underway to rescue the trapped victims.

Reacting to the development, the Lagos Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management A[/b]gency, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

He said, [b]“Seven-storey building collapsed at Sand field bus stop, Lekki. Six people are said to be trapped and responders on ground.”

In his own reaction, the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said that upon arrival, it was discovered that the collapsed building was still under construction.

He said, “No injury sustained. However, about six people are reported to be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed structure.

“The agency’s heavy duty equipment excavator will be required for the rescue of the trapped victims. We have activated Lagos State Response plan. The operation is ongoing.

Usage of unprofessionals and substandard materials to build in order to save/ cut cost is the most expensive way to build.

Very hard for some Nigerians to waste their money and do great things rather they do it in a cheap way!

Building collapse is becoming a menace in Nigeria especially Lagos

But government should be looking into the materials and methods used to construct these buildings to avoid this type of stories. I know this could have be averted if quality materials and proper means was used to construct this building. Hopefully the trapped people will come out alive

Pls read it again, the building is under construction so Tinubu has nothing to do with it, but that doesn't mean I can fight any longer because of Nigerian politicians. All of them are the same they have no ideology they all gang against the poor

Architect knows nothing about structural strength, like wise building technologist, bricks layers, surveyor, etc. No matter your years of experience. Only a civil engineer does.
