[quote author=Ibk2020 post=113128462]My bank is giving me dollar in cash instead of pounds as PTA, pls how best can I get value for my money when exchanging? Should I exchange at the airport or bring the dollars to UK to come exchange?[/quote Please don't make the mistake of carrying dollar cash to the uk. The rates are terrible. Pay it into a USD domiciliary in Nigeria and come along with the card. The rates is better |

Afternoon House, I'm about to take an offer and this clause on renumeration looks funny to me. Is this a normal practice in the UK? "Remuneration is payable in arrears. You will be paid for each calendar month on the 5th of the subsequent month (or on the preceding working day if the 5th of the month falls on a non-working day) by BACS. Please allow up to 5 working days for transfer to be completed." Lexusgs430, erico2k2, omopapa, Fatima04, goke77, Solumtoya, sammyk, NNTR 1 Like |

Thanks, but I'm expected to resume on 27th of May. Does it mean my first payment will then be on 5th of July and probably 10th of July given the 5 days transfer window?

lightnlife: When the payroll is run, you get paid accordingly, So it simply means you only get a few working days pay ...... That 5 day window, is simply an allowance window....... |

lightnlife:Congrats Lexusgs430:This is spot on Its a general and/or common, right across board, level playing field, this, paying in arrears idea. Scarcely anyone gets paid in advance. For monthly paid staff, usually pay day is, popularly, the last working day of the month, meaning, if your start work date is 3rd May 2022, then your first pay will be 31st May 2022 Personal text: Jesus is not a theologian. Ibk2020: The first one. There are always conversion charges when you spend money from your Nigerian USD . |
Xanderlex: 6:09am On May 26, 2022 |
Ibk2020: I can't say. When I wanted option 1, the aboki guys said they would convert to usd to naira at buying price and change naira to gbp at selling price. You do the maths. I just ended up going with option 2. U get charged for withdrawing cash but free when paying for transactions with the card. |

Hello everyone here, gentle reminder that if you are a student and you buy a student discounted bus , ALWAYS CARRY YOUR STUDENT ID CARD WHEN TRAVELLING WITH THE BUS . If Inspectors accost you on the bus, it's a £50 fine immediately or £70 in 3 weeks on National express. This is after showing them your bus . 2 Likes |

Keralis: As long as you took it, it's fine. It doesn't matter when. |
Solumtoya: 9:03am On May 26, 2022 |
Ibk2020: I won't advise you bring it to the UK. The rates here aren't good. You can deposit it in your Nigerian USD if it's a decent bank like Access, Zenith or Gtb. Otherwise, convert it to Pounds or Naira at aboki. |

I just came out of a ban (from another thread). Thanks to the mods for the release. "Remuneration is payable in arrears. An employee is typically paid for the period worked. Hence, salary at end of month. "You will be paid for each calendar month on the 5th of the subsequent month You are deemed a contractor whose timesheet for the month must be completed, collated, turned in, verified, signed off. The operative words are 5th and subsequent month or on the preceding working day if the 5th of the month falls on a non-working day) by BACS." Ensures that you are paid at least a day before a bank holiday. More so, say Sun (5th) is a non working day, payment is made latest by the 4th or most likely Fri 3rd. These are nothing to worry much about. Ensure, you are in control of your timesheet (paper or electronic) "BACS Please allow up to 5 working days for transfer to be completed." Payment will be from the employer to your nominated bank (effectively a direct debit). For some, it just 24 hours, however, it might be around 2-3 days. The 5 working days is for the employer to cover themselves legally/risk BACS UK Payment System is simply the interbank settlement/clearing: BACS was previously the acronym for Bankers' Automated Clearing System PS: just think of Nigeria's Inter-Bank Settlement System Plc (NIBSS) lightnlife: 2 Likes |

If I understand what you enquire, one of your concern is continue with studies or not. Gurus and elders had clarified this on this thread. I can't recall the page. However, just to chip in, the UK Gov explicitly allows you. Also, most universities clarifies this. [https://www.gov.uk/skilled-worker-visa] What you can and cannot do With a Skilled Worker visa you can: - work in an eligible job - study - ... ... Overview from Gov.uk A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer. This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa. KCL (Kings College) emphasise that you “must intend to work”. Invariably, working becomes primary and study secondary! Ditto, the reverse USW (South Wales) goes further to put beyond doubt If you are in the UK in a work related immigration category..., you may undertake study that fits around your work. There is no condition which prohibits study. Therefore you are free to undertake part time or full time study whilst you are working. You should however be mindful of the following issues: Work/study balance ... ... Length of the course and visa expiration date ... Leaving and re-entering the UK ... What do you intend to do afterwards? ... Kindly note that a number of UK universities have not updated their websites: Tier 2, Tier 4, Tier 5!! Pacypatty: |
