Cats make cries like babies like that when they are on heat or in their breeding season

As you said they just started making that noise at your window this is probably their breeding period

I had similar experience, but this time na dogs, numbered like 5 of 6. It happened that every night, midnight they gather at my window side and making noises and sounds. On the the third night or so, I summoned courage and open the window, immediately they all Walked away and never returned.

Lol! I have cats. It's the female cats doing so. It's possible they used to have sex with a male cat behind your window. It's possible that male cat is dead. The cats are alarming to attract any male cat in that surrounding to come and have sex with them. After they have sex there, you won't ever hear them again until another season when they want another sex. If eventually the sex happens at another area, trust me, they will go to the new area to call out for sex another time. It's their heat (Hot) period hitting hard on them. You've got to pity them. If you can come out and shout "puus puus puus" several times, they won't come there again. Cats add great significance to where they mate to breed.
