A presidential adviser says Ukraine lost control of the Chernobyl nuclear site, where Ukranian forces had waged a fierce battle with Russian troops.

Adviser Myhailo Podolyak told The Associated Press that Ukrainian authorities did not know the current condition of the facilities at Chernobyl, the site of the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

“After the absolutely senseless attack of the Russians in this direction, it is impossible to say that the Chernobyl nuclear power plant is safe,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had announced several hours earlier Thursday that Russian forces were trying to seize the Chernobyl nuclear plant.

A nuclear reactor at the plant 130 kilometers (80 miles) north of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, exploded in April 1986, spewing radioactive waste across Europe.

The exploded reactor was covered by a protective shelter several years ago to prevent radiation leaks.

It’s a Pity Zelenskyy allowed Sleepy Joe to deceive him. He didn’t learn from the 2008 Russia/Georgia war where George Bush a Republican who loved war couldn’t confront Russia after pushing Georgia to war with Russia. I have said this and will keep seeing it. The West won’t go to war with Russia over Ukraine. These Nuclear Powers honors MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction ). They know it would be disastrous to go to war with themselves. A Third World War is equivalent to a full scale nuclear war. Stop comparing what happened in 1939 that caused the Second World War when Hitler Invaded Poland to current happenings now, times have changed. Ukraine will just suffer the brunt and nothing will happen. We the student of history knew what happened during the 1962 missile crisis in Cuba. US shouldn’t allow what they won’t take. US won’t allow Russia to site a military base around any country close to them. Russia is a big name in the league too. Putin is only fighting for the future security of his Nation.

At the end of all these I see a stronger Russia. This conflict will soon be resolved diplomatically, American, EU, UN will not attack Russia, Ukraine will suffer some damages. The fact that Russia defied warnings from some power houses including US to invade Ukraine will make the fearsome.
The world needs peace, Africa needs help serious one, let all parties shield their sword.

Putin has blundered so badly here it’s almost laughable.

His choices are simple:

He withdraws from the border and doesn’t invade, but that makes all his posturing look weak since he already is occupying Ukraine with his troops (Crimea, Donbass) and has issued a “red-line” statement against the West. Weakness is not a character trait Russians particularly respect.

He invades because he’s already tacitly committed himself to doing so and his country faces the wrath of pretty much the entire world. Sanctions would most certainly be extreme, and then possible loss of trade with the largest economies (U.S., E.U. U.K, Japan, Australia, etc.) How long do you think Russia can survive on its own? We wouldn’t even need to blockade Russian ports, we’d just embargo them into submission.
Yeah, Vlad got himself into a real geopolitical pickle here. He hasn’t left himself very many options that are good for himself or his shitty country.

Like I said in my other comment on one of the numerous topics concerning the Ukraine and Russia crisis, Vladimir Putin and Russia are only looking for opportunities to showcase their military prowess, and unfortunately, Ukraine is the nearest fragile counterparts for them to pounce on. We've seen a couple of threads on here eulogizing Vladimir Putin's success in building weapons like the supersonic missile and sundry lethal weapons. Now my question is, do you guys think those weapons were built to shoot God down from heaven? Hell no! It's made for humans. That guy is a power psychopath!
