February 2019..
I sold a car to a man who claims to work at a military establishment. He bought a car worth 1.4m from me and paid 1m. Asked me to follow him to his work place so as to get the balance but being busy, I designated my boy to follow him.
Few hours later, my boy called and was hysterical. The man asked him to come down to check what was bring out smoke from underneath at which there was none.
Immediately he alighted, the man zoomed off with his phone in the car.
He had to use a erby's phone to call me.
I went to pick him up and we went to the place where he claimed to be working but there was no such person working there.
I was pained as there was nothing to be used to track him. He left with all the documents and receipts...
Ever had such experience, please share as there are lessons to be learnt from such.

Did you used the name on the receipt to check his on social media? Did he pay cash or through transfer, I believe he can still be tracked.

he can hardly be tracked Sir. Such criminals don't use their true identities for transactions and I can bet you; he must have sold the car to recoup the CASH payment he made plus extra profits. Such a sad experience @TPound

Why not collect your money in full before you gave him the original papers

For someone to pay over 50% and asked that I follow him to collect the balance, it will be a waste of time to follow him, collect the balance, come back to the office to bring the documents and take it back to him

This is insane.
I trying to sell my Toyota matrix.
A client called me to bring the car to his neighborhood.

Having read many stories of how cars are snatched, I declined.

My advice is to strictly sell cars at your lot.

Import your car yourself for stories like this. I cannot buy a car used for kidnapping or robbery and I will be arrested. This is the main reason I cannot buy car in Nigeria. No matter how expensive it is to import a used car, that the route I will always take.

What if you insist on the man should go get the balance with your boy and you will deliver the car directly to him but he insisted, collect his advance leave.
No doubt, you would think you lost a customer.
Prayer...

Where are you located, Sir? I can get you buyers for a fixed percentage. I just need to snap your cars or have pictures of them

If you want to get into the business.. you need another sure source of income.. otherwise, with the ever increasing exchange rate and Nigerian inflation, the chances of eating your capital is really high.

Mine is car hire ooo

Omo everyday na war cos some customers even though the car is tracked, they either want to run away with the car after paying to hire it for one day or claim that armed robbers attached them or remove the brain box and run away to go and sell it or drive the car out of town against the company policy or refuse to return the car back on time

And it’s very hard to know which customers would give you stress and which one would not give you stress before you give your car out on hire to them

Doing business in Nigeria is sometimes sad, cos once armed robbers or thieves know your business has money in it, how they are coming to come and take their part is what they will start thinking about

If you ever export that's over 8M, you'll realise how greedy most Nigerian dealers (Agents! I don't consider them dealers) are.

Like how do you want to make 3M on a car that you did not put money in

HOW
