Having served in a church in probably all fields, Technical, Cleaning, Instruments, Choir, Ushery and a lot , I was wondering about the opinion that apart from a pastor if it is right to pay church workers, what does the bible say about it and what are your own personal opinions about this?

I do think it is not a bad idea at all, as much as church work is more of a responsibility than a job, it is still a job in some sense, i just think, perhaps some sort of financial would be beneficial especially in large churches.

Church istrative staff, including the domestic staff should be paid salaries. Not only paid, but should be encouraged and trained to have side businesses.

It's an istrative decision. There are different istrations but the same Lord.

Yes , they should be paid..... Not only will it help reduce the rate of unemployment in the country but will also motivate the workers more.
It doesn't necessarily need to be much, even if it's small stipends after all we all know that the church collects lots of tithes and donations and God doesn't have an number.

If the church and its leadership is smart and spirit filled, this question would not come up because then, they would know by heart what to do.

So what should be done?

There are folks that work for God and by extension the church that are comfortable already. They do not need any form of financial remuneration.

However, there are others that obviously need it.

This life is not hard! If I was the pastor, I would see to it that those guys that need are put on some form of salaries or with the full of other workers that do not need it. When you have open discussions with people, things like this can be agreed upon.

I am to a large extent very sure that if the pastorate meets with the comfortable ones to seek their agreement that the not so comfortable ones be put on salaries, they won't mind.


But what we have today is a non-thinking church because as a matter of fact I do not think such arrangement should be to only workers but to everyone in the church.

Welfare is a big issue and if the congregation is not doing so well, then should be given if there is the means!

Only istrative workers should be paid e.g church staff. Reason because that is their full time job, they do not have time for other businesses.

Typical example is the Levite Clans in the bible who were assigned various tasks in the temple. Consequently the people were commanded (by God) to give first fruits, tithes and other offerings to the Levites (for their upkeep).

the church as a cooperate body is a learning institution where the scriptures are being taught... and just every other learning institutions it has several units and departments under it who have workers serving therein. While in most cases the funding may not match up with the classical learning institution, the wages of workers would thus not be expected to match those of its former counterpart. These are workers and most of them are devoted full time.

The pastor is a church worker too. He is not different. If the pastor is earning from the church, the choiristers, ushers, those sweeping, instrumentalist etc should earn except they volunteer just as a Pastor can also be a volunteer.

The church also doubles as a business enterprise let's stop deceiving ourselves... Church Workers are workers too and yes, they should be paid
