Reading from the comments above, i can only conclude that majority of Nigerians are mediocres especially the youths. If you're talking about the one with higher prospect of making good money, go for civil engineering. How do you choose? Look at the prospects in each Pharmacy: Get job in a pharmacitical Company or set up a pharmacy shop. Civil Engineering: Work for construction company or Target construction contracts. Salary upon graduation from the two course could be around the same range based on Degree, but as a self employed individual, construction contract is far ahead of owning a pharmacy store. Like someone said above, just one contract is enough to change the story of your whole family. Is the field saturated? No, we're still at the early stage. So there's higher prospect in construction and lot's of opportunities based on your specialisation; road construction, building construction, etc 2 Likes |

The one that is better is the one that your heart really wants. Not the one that you think will bring more money or the one that people prefer. Follow your heart!

If you have ion for medicine, why not go for it. If you were to work in Nigeria, a medical doctor is placed above every other area of discipline. Let me break it down. A medical doctor entry point to service is level 12, while an engineer without Coren is level 8. Pharmacist is placed at entry point of 10. A medical doctor at entry level 12 earns better than a deputy director at level 16. A pharmacist earn better than an engineer. Abroad, a medical doctor stands a better chance of gaining entry into western countries and you can google the pay. A physician after mbbs is addressed as a Dr. while you have to study your as as engineer upto PhD. before you are called a doctor. Medicine is not graded, I. e it doesn't have class of degree like 1st, 2nd upper or lower etc. once you graduate you're a doctor while you may hit a lower class in engineering if you did not show enough commitment. Pharmacy would give you a quicker employment. You'll also be able to set up on your own if you have capital. If you're really smart, you can go for Civil Engineering. With good grades at graduation, you can get a good job at top pay. Engineers are among the best paid professionals.

Better go for civil engineering and while at, learn structural drawing(don’t know if I’m correct) and start going to site with engineers/builders, you will never regret it.

Alexis11: A ed Engineer can also be using his license to stamp drawings for people and even act as a consultant and he will still make it big... Do you know what it means to stamp and seal a project of even 30m. 3 Likes |

Better go for pharmacy. Civil engineer you must get government or big contract to blow.... Even to build houses these days, owners have their own bricklayers and other site workers, they just pay you 5K-10k to come supervise foundation ![]() And many quacks in the engineering cadre has made it worse ![]() 4 Likes 1 Share |

KunleyY19:Heard you get 20% of a contract amount of which proposal you make and sign as an engineer and stamp with the seal, aside your the main pay you'll receive. Heard there was this Lecturer in my school, a state governor was begging like a kid to sign a proposal, the man refused, because the money is way more than the contract (heard it was about 2billion naira for street lights) for the state. 1 Like |

My brother, considering the state of the nation economy wise, kindly opt for Pharmacy. With Pharmacy, you can set up your own which will involve you turning it into a family business if you want and still engage in other things. However, it is capital intensive though. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Even with my OND in Civil Engineering, I feel like a graduate of Medicine and Surgery who has spent 8years or more in school. I'm not trying to be exaggerating, Civil Engineering is a course that would open doors of opportunities for you because of the several others careers under CIVIL, the mother of all Engineering. Go for Civil Engineering, it is not just interesting but also lucrative. 3 Likes |

Omo I’m studying civil Engineering and everyday I feel like I’m making a mistake. Everyone I know that studied civil all rushed off into IT. The thing with engineering is that there hardly exists any kind of career structure like with the medicals. So na struggle you go struggle tire. Being a brilliant engineer won’t cut it; you need to be a ferocious hustler. All the people talking about life changing engineering contracts; ask those that got them what they went through to get it.....and how forthcoming are the contracts self. If you check the field, the engineers that make it the most are those ones driven by ion. This ion begins to manifest straight from UG days; you will always see them complaining about not getting enough practical knowledge from the department; then they start pushing beyond school, getting practical knowledge outside of school work. They put themselves through so much stress but they seem to be enjoying this stress. Only with ion will you survive here. Summarily, civil engineering is rewarding but get ready to live an extremely stressful life. Unlike pharmacy and other medicals; you will never be comfortable working a “routine” engineering job. 6 Likes |
